Davenport's Weekly Update
Week of June 5th, 2022
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Davenport Family!
“Today I will do what others won’t so tomorrow I can do what others can’t.” Unknown
Boy has the days flown by. They say “time flies when you are having FUN”! The last couple of weeks has been a BLAST with Field Trips, Fun Day, Lip Sync Show, Community Art Show, just to name a few. While we are jam packed with activities, we are also jam packed with closing out the school year and the time is dwindling. In the world of negative things happening around us or sometimes to us, continue to be positive. It takes STRENGTH but knowing the staff and students here at Davenport, there’s nothing too BIG or too small for us to handle. Keep running the race, there is a FINISH line in sight. FINISH STRONG!
We have one more week of the #doitfordrayke challenge as we continue to promote kindness and positive interaction with peers. Students will continue to be recognized for demonstrating acts of kindness towards their classmates and others. Please continue to partner with us in teaching the students that Kindness is Key at home and in the community!
Have a great weekend!

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
75 Book Reading Challenege
Mrs. Gevers class had a pizza party in celebration of her students meeting their 75 Book Reading Challenge. Along the way to completing their challenge, the class read a couple of stories having to do with sunflower seeds so they brought different flavored seeds in to try.
Busy As A Bee!
Mrs. Goldstein's kindergarten class studied the importance of bees this week, creating their own books with facts and pictures. They learned about how bees collect pollen to help plants grow and simulated this process by using Cheetos dust to pretend pollinating their flowers.
Taking The Show On The Road
On Tuesday, June 7th, our Davenport Honors Choir represented Egg Harbor Township at the Children's Choral Festival in Cape May. Ten choirs performed. The DHC was the youngest choir there and was the definite crowd pleaser! After their performance, the students enjoyed a sweet treat on the "Patio!"
Shout out to Mrs. Mullen, Mrs. Scullion and Dr. Kadetsky for chaperoning with Mrs. Schenck! A great time was had by all!

No ProbLLAMA Getting Our Library Books Back!
Mrs. Cavileer, Davenport Primary Media Specialist, is on a mission to have students return their library books! Each class is entered into a contest to be among the first to get ALL their library responsibilities complete. This includes getting library books back to school, or taking care of fines and replacements if the books are lost. Please encourage your child to find their books and get them back! If a book is lost, please replace the title of the book or send in cash or check (made payable to Davenport Schools) as soon as possible. Thank you for your help!

#DOITFORDRAYKE Challenge
From June 6th through June 17th our school will be participating in a #DoItForDrayke challenge. Davenport Complex will focus on and educate our students on being a good friend and always being kind to one another, despite our differences. Each morning the students will hear about a different character education trait over the announcements.
For these ten days, students will have the opportunity to earn a purple ticket by displaying acts of kindness, being a good friend, and for showing respect and leadership. On June 17th each homeroom teacher will randomly pull a purple ticket to choose a student to win a #DoItForDrayke book bag. These book bags are sponsored by EHT community members and parents Dominic and Andrea Pugliese and their charity “Built with Love,” along with 724 Bagger Co. A huge thank you to them for supporting and promoting a very relevant and worthy cause.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS
Atlantic County Library Visits Davenport
The Davenport Libraries had a special visitor come this week to introduce our students to the Atlantic County Library System. Ms. Ashley Rahn, the children's librarian from the EHT branch of the Atlantic County Library came to Davenport to get students excited about reading over the summer! She explained the many programs that the county offers as well as the different books that the students can find! She encouraged summer reading telling our students that for every book a student reads over the summer, they can go to the EHT library and get a raffle ticket to be entered into a raffle each week. The students enjoyed a hilarious read aloud as well. It was a great way to tie our school to the community. We hope our families at Davenport encourage your children to read by taking them to the EHT library over the summer!
