Sneak Peek of the Week Ahead

WEEKLY THEME: I LOVE America!

Presidents' Day is observed on the third Monday in February. This week we will learn about the presidents of the United States. We will celebrate the February birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as we learn about these presidents and increase students' knowledge of U.S. government as we learn about U.S. symbols.

READING THING

This week in our reading groups, we will continue to spell and write words, make sentences with moveable words, and add information to a President’s Chart as we compare Washington and Lincoln. Fact versus fiction will be a theme this week as we sharpen our skills.

On Friday, we will go on line and take a virtual tour of The White House and read a little bit about its history.

NUMBER WORKS

Presidential math will have us observing and using pennies. We will begin our unit on coin recognition and identifying coins and their values. Additionally, we will enjoy some math BY GEORGE. We will use measurement skills and estimation skills to discern the weight and cost of several different cherry products. Our MIF has a chapter for us on coin recognition that we will complete this week as well.

Star of the Week--JONAH BOWLING

Meet our Star of the Week, Jonah Bowling! Jonah loves the color blue, riding his bike, building with Legos, and Star Wars. Jonah has an older sister named Sarah. At school, he enjoys math and playing with his friends at recess. When asked about his favorite foods, Jonah was quick to reply "french fries and going to McDonald's". Jonah's birthday is February 16th, so let's all wish him a very Happy Birthday!!

Friendly Reminders:

THIS WEEK

The spelling test and our homework folders will not happen until Wednesday. I will not be in the classroom on Tuesday due to the make up day for incoming kindergarten testing. Since spelling lists would be sent out two days late, there will not be a new spelling list sent home until next Monday. I will send home new homework in the yellow folders Wednesday. Snow days and rescheduling can really play havoc with our routines. I do apologize for any confusion about spelling. I want to be fair to the children and give them that full week to work on their spelling words.

Valentine's Day 2016

A NOTE FROM MRS. J

Dear Families,

We had a fun-filled Valentine party on Thursday thanks to Mrs. Cobb, Mrs. Gliatti, Mrs. Horn,Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Snell, Mrs. Wilmer,Mrs. Marcum and Mrs. Hill. We certainly did exercise our hearts and bodies as played several heart healthy games. It would be hard to say which game was the most fun. Thank you to all who send in items to make this a fun memory! I am sure that the Valentine bags were enjoyed as children brought them home and found fun messages from their friends.

Blessings,

Kathie
