Pella Middle School Honored for Character Counts

Pella Middle School received an honorable mention for the state of Iowa's School of Character award for the 2020-2021 school year given by the The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University. Lyndon Norton (class of 2026), Sydney Namminga and Rylie VanVark (class of 2025), Mrs. Belding, 8th grade PE & Health teacher, and parents wrote letters to support our school in hopes of winning the Iowa School of Character award. We are grateful to all who supported this endeavor, and more importantly, we are grateful to serve students, parents, and a community that values education as well as partners with us in this educational journey.

What? Nearly Six Weeks in the Books!

The students have stepped in to and stepped up to the middle school lifestyle, and we are so proud of both grades for their willingness to try new things, listen, learn, and demonstrate great character. Please thank your students for their efforts, and we would also like to thank you for your support and encouragement.

Special Thank You to Dutch 200 for Sponsoring "A Taste of Pella"

Our local bowling alley, Dutch 200, donated pizza for our entire Pella Middle School staff to kick off our first "A Taste of Pella" event of the year. Our Culture and Climate team is planning an event monthly and calling it “A Taste of Pella”, and their plan is to provide a meal from a different restaurant or food supplier from Pella to our entire staff.

Our intent is that each person will feel valued, but we also believe our local businesses will be rewarded with a return on their generosity as businesses gain exposure of our outstanding products in this community.

Monthly Pella Middle Leadership Message

Dear Pella Middle School Families,

We are excited to share that students at Pella Middle School are flexing and developing their leadership skills through our district-wide program, The Leader in Me. A really special part of this program is its potential to change perspectives. Those involved are gaining resources to help shift paradigms:

* See image below*

Leader in Me is built around the 8 habits. Your child has learned about each habit on Thursday and Friday, August 26 and 27, and over time, families will learn more about each habit during the school year through newsletters and family activity suggestions. If you'd like more information beforehand, check out the Leader in Me website.

As always, thank you for sharing your child with us at Pella Middle School. We look forward to partnering with you on this leadership journey!

The Counselor Connection

PMS School Counseling Program Overview

Academic Support: School counselors monitor student grades and proactively check-in with students who are experiencing academic difficulties. The school counselor can provide academic coaching to individual students on organization, time management, and test taking.

Social Emotional Support: School counselors conduct an annual needs assessment to get a sense of our student population’s social emotional needs. We provide short term group and individual counseling. School counselors are available to consult with parents on supporting their student’s social emotional needs.

Career Exploration & Academic Planning: Our students are starting to develop career interests and planning for the future. School counselors support our students using an online platform called Kuder Navigation (career exploration tool). We conduct annual classroom-based career exploration lessons. Additionally, counselors support students & families with planning out their academic pathway.
