History of Ice cream

Origin:
- Ice cream's origins are known to reach back as far as the 5th century B.C
- It is said to have been invented in China
- One of the first known people to have eaten an early form of ice cream was Marco Polo in the 1300s after bringing it to Europe
How it has changed:
- In the early stages of ice cream, it was just snow and ice, flavored with honey and nectar or fruit juices
Interesting facts:
- Ice cream was introduced to America in the 1700s
- In 1776, the first ice cream parlor opened in New York
- The first ice cream plant is opened in 1851
- July is national ice cream month
- Ice cream is the best selling treat in the U.S next to cookies
- The world's tallest ice cream cone was made in Italy and was over 9 ft. tall
Uses/Consumption patterns:
- Vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor in the U.S
- 87% of Americans have ice cream in their freezers at any given time of year
- In 2013, people in the U.S spent $13.7 billion on ice cream
- An American eats an average of 48 pints of ice cream each year
