Week of December 18th ~Academy of St. Benedict the African

Week of December 18, 2022

Dear Families,

The video above has highlights of this week's bulletin.

It is Week 4 of Advent, and we light the last candle. This fourth week of Advent, the reading from 2 Samuel leaves us asking: “Do I have a dwelling place for the Lord in my heart?” This week, let’s ask ourselves, “Are our hearts a fitting place for the Christ Child to rest his head?”

This is a short week as we move into Christmas Break. There is school Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday after school there is Chess Club and Basketball Practice.

There is extended day on Tuesday but are no clubs or practices as we are setting up for the Christmas Program from 3-6.

All classes have communicated what their children should wear for the Wednesday program. If you are unsure, contact the teacher directly through Bloomz or email.

The Christmas Program is Wednesday, December 21st, at 9 AM in our gym. This is the last day of school before Christmas. We expect a full house! Doors open at 8:30 AM. Use the gym entrance on Justine.

You may dismiss your children after the Christmas program has concluded. We will not dismiss DURING the show. Please stay for the entire show.

To be clear: There will be no after-school extended day on Wednesday. This is a 2 pm dismissal day.

We are raffling off two sets of four front-row seats to the Christmas Program! The cost to be entered into the raffle is $10. We will choose the winner live on our FB page on December 20th. If you'd like to enter the raffle, bring in or send in $10 (cash only).

Please review your family's FACTS account or call the business office (x102 or X103) for clarity. If you have a past-due balance, let's make a plan!

Unless children are sick, they are required to be in school each day for the entire day. That is the state law.

Featured Families: Would you like to be a St. Benedict the African Featured Friday Family? Complete this form! We love spotlighting our families and will even offer 1 PAW for participating!

Please continue to be courteous and kind at drop-off and pick-up. A few extra minutes won't hurt, and our children's safety is at stake.

Don't forget that we have a used clothing collection box in our parking lot. As you clean your closets, please use the collection box, as each time we fill it, a tree is planted. We help others by donating and taking care of our environment -it's a win-win!

All scholars enter the school at door 1. For extended-day families, pick-up is from door 2 after 3:30.

Thank you for choosing the Academy of St. Benedict the African for your family.

I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The next Family Update will be sent Monday, January 2. Reminder school resumes on Wednesday, January 4th.

2022-2023 School Calendar

We need masks! We are critically low on our mask supply. Right now, if you can help us with face masks, we'd really appreciate it. The rate of COVID, FLU, and RSV infections is rising in the city. Masking is a good preventative measure, especially for those who are not vaccinated for COVID and/or FLU.

Five hundred children's disposable face masks (no cloth) will earn 2 PAWS and 1000 masks for 4 PAWS.

The masks can be sent as a gift if you order from Amazon. Please add your name to the gift receipt for proper credit. With the upcoming Christmas break, we do need delivery by Wednesday the 21st or after 1/4/23.

Here are some options!

Save the Dates!

It's that time of year again! Applications for Tax Credit Scholarships for the 23-24 school year will open in January. As always, time is of the essence in the application process.

We recommend that all families apply to both Big Shoulders and Empower Illinois.

Big Shoulders SGO's application date is January 12th at 8 AM. Be on the site at 7:45.

Empower Illinois' application date is January 18th at 6:30 PM. At 6:30, you can enter some necessary information, and at 7 hit apply.

Over 130 of our scholars have Tax Credit Scholarships this year. It's a great program for families and for the school.

Tuition Payments & Action for Children

Each family has an account in FACTS to monitor their tuition account. Payments for most are due on the 17th of the month. A few of our families have different due dates to accommodate pay periods. As a reminder, late fees are automatically assessed on the 4th day after the due date.

It's essential that payments are made as scheduled so that the school can meet its obligations.

Please contact me or Ms. Fernandez, our business manager, if you have concerns.
