Vision Week

If you could design a school just for your student, what would it be like? Would it focus on STEM skills? Would it provide future-focused apprenticeship programs? Would it help students become world-renown mimes?? Or maybe it would just have a really excellent teacher in every classroom?

We want to know what you think! Share your vision with us at https://surveyhero.com/c/GISD.

We are conducting Vision Week because Galveston ISD is a part of TEA's System of Great Schools (SGS) Network, which helps school districts ensure that all students have access to high-quality, best-fit school options.

DAR Announces ‘Patriots of the Revolution’ High School Essay Contest

In preparation for the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, the George Washington Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has launched the "Patriots of the American Revolution“ DAR High School Essay Contest. This contest focuses on the men and women who figured in the events of the American Revolution (1773 – 1783), and it is hoped that students will find Patriots to write about who will interest and inspire them.

This contest is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Essays from students from all grades will be judged, with one winning essay chosen at each grade level. Winning entries will be submitted to the state competition.

Essays should be 800 to 1,200 words in length. The deadline to enter is Nov. 15.

Each student participant receives a certificate of participation from the chapter, and the chapter winners receive a bronze medal and certificate set. Winners will be recognized at the George Washington Chapter tea in February.

For an information packet, please email chapter American History Chair Carol Langston at clangston@gc.edu.
