The Paradoxes of Life

I would like to thank those parents who joined me for our First Tuesday Parent night! Our discussion focused on a Growth Mindset. Our key points were how having a growth mindset will enable each of us to stay positive when negativity surrounds us, to challenge ourselves to do better, and to recast “failing” to “learning.”

When we practice a growth mindset, we grow in so many ways. Charles Ferrell wrote about the paradoxes of life, which in turn, has the same outcomes as having a growth mindset. Here are some of the paradoxes he wrote about:

When I spend myself - body, soul and strength - I find replenishment within.

When I extend kindness freely, I find friendliness growing abundantly within.

When I give abundantly to God and charity, I find my resources increasing instead of diminishing.

When I exhibit happiness, I find most happy responses.

When I give or serve or share or provide, I receive or am served or shared with or provided for in return.

When I offer peace of mind to another, I discover it growing within myself.

When I feel peace with God. I discover I am at peace with the world.

Throughout the year, our students will be hearing about the monthly Social Emotional Learning (SEL) theme. September is Friendliness (imbedded with the Growth Mindset). Extending kindness does, 90% of the time, bring other kind acts to you. Being friendly to others, brings about other friendly gestures. Let us practice being friendly to everyone at BIA, in our neighborhood, and in our world!

Blessings,

Aaron M. Landgrave, Principal

International Fest

The BIA International Fest is scheduled for Friday, November 12th. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. I am looking to form a small 5-6 person parent committee to meet with Mrs. Hernandez and myself, to begin planning this HUGE event for our community. We are looking at Tuesday or Thursday next week from 3:15-4. Free extended care will be provided. Let the office know if you would be interested.

A Note from our Director of Marketing & Enrollment - Mrs. Bateman

Can you believe it? We are already three weeks into the school year! Our classrooms are buzzin' with the sound of learning and the exploration of new topics and ideas. Our school office has also been busy...planning upcoming events and rolling out information about things like school athletics and spirit shirts. We hope that your family has found their groove at BIA, and that your student has had an easy transition into school this fall.

We know that parents are our biggest cheerleaders and that your "word of mouth" is a valuable tool in helping us continue to grow. We do have a handful of spots open in some of our grades...and we'd love to fill those. If you have family or friends who are interested, please direct them to myself (abateman@biachicago.com) or have them call the school office. We'd love a introduction, and as always, are thankful for your help in spreading the word about BIA.
