Heritage Bears
September 2016
Principal's Message
Dear Heritage Families,
Heritage Intermediate is off to an amazing start to the 2016-17 school year! During the first three weeks of school our staff has been focusing on getting to know your children and building the type of school environment where all students feel cared for and safe. Heritage teachers are fantastic at developing positive classroom environments and building positive relationships with each of their students.
In addition to our twenty-seven classroom teachers, Heritage is blessed to have special area and special education teachers who care about our students and provide high quality instruction each day. I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge our support staff for the part they play in making Heritage a great school. Our secretaries, instructional assistants, para-professionals, custodians, and food service staff serve our students in so many important ways. Many of our staff members also sponsor clubs that provide our students with great experiences outside of the classroom. Heritage offers the following clubs for students throughout the school year: Lego Robotics Club, Sphero Club, Science Club, Harmonizers, Running Club, Hockey Club, Ambassadors, Peer Tutors, Video Club, Read, Right, and Run Club, and Art Club. I want to encourage your children to take advantage of the many great activities Heritage Elementary has to offer during the 2016-17 school year.
Please consider joining the Heritage Elementary PTA! The PTA does an amazing job supporting our teachers and students throughout the school year! Research shows that successful schools have a high rate of volunteerism taking place at the school! Please consider increasing our rate of volunteerism by joining our Heritage PTA. The next PTA meeting is on Thursday, September 8 at 4:30 pm in the library.
Our new character education theme at Heritage Elementary is Show Your True Colors! The phrase "show your true colors" is used to refer to when someone is in a situation and he or she does something that shows what kind of character that person really has developed. Our true colors at Heritage are RESPECT (Aug/Sept), SERVICE (Oct/Nov), INTEGRITY (Dec/Jan), COOPERATION (Feb/Mar), and SELF-CONTROL (Apr/May). We want to help our students develop these true colors and we want their actions to reflect these true colors.
The beginning of the school year has been an exciting time for all of us as we have developed new friendships, explored new classrooms, and engaged in new learning experiences. Please partner with us throughout the 2016—2017 school year to ensure that every child at Heritage Intermediate experiences success! And...you are cordially invited to attend Open House this Thursday, September 1 from 5:00—7:00pm. See page three for details about Open House.
“It’s a GREAT day to be a BEAR!”
