Summer Worshops at OLM
Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School is offering a one-week summer workshop in reading and math - Monday, July 11 to Friday, July 15 from 9AM to 12PM. Research conducted by Johns Hopkins University showed that students not involved in a summer program lost several months of reading and math skills. The research gives great support to a summer program. Research also supports the notion that children will never have a chance for higher achievement without higher-level reading skills. Students will receive Math & Reading Instruction each day from OLM teachers. Teachers will also provide enrichment. Cost is $150 for the week. Please refer to the information packet that was sent home two week ago.

As God breathed life into Adam, so Jesus breathes new life into his disciples – the gift of the Holy Spirit. As they breathe in the Spirit, they are able to receive and give forgiveness.
St. Luke describes the coming of the Spirit in more dramatic fashion. As the Spirit descends as tongues of fire on the disciples, they begin to make bold proclamation of the Good News in an astounding way.
The same Spirit is given to each of us at our Baptism, and his presence has been strengthened in Confirmation. St. Paul points that that we are one in the Body of Christ because we all share the one Spirit.
Each of us has special gifts that have been given to us as a way of manifesting the Spirit’s presence in us. Our gifts are given, not for our own good, but for the good of others; when we use our gifts for others, we witness to our oneness in Christ. No one’s gift or ministry or work is more important than anyone else’s; all are needed for the unity of the community of the Church.
Each of us is important because each brings a gift or talent or way of working that no one else can bring to the group. We all lose something when an individual person’s gifts are not welcomed or used in the community. The same is true at Our Lady of Mercy School.
That’s why a welcoming attitude is so important in the Church community. It’s also why forgiveness is so important among us. We need one another in order to experience the full wonder of God’s love for us.
As we celebrate this feast of new life, our breathing can be a graced reminder. The Spirit is as close to each of us as our very breath, taken deeply into our lungs thousands of times every day, a constant life-giving force.
As we exhale, the Spirit’s power directs us outward to our mission - spreading the love, peace and MERCY we have inhaled from the risen Lord Jesus.
May we breathe deeply today!

Virtue of the Month: GENTLENESS
Our virtue of the month of May is GENTLENESS. Students will learn more completely that gentleness is a listening ear and a merciful smile. Gentleness includes true humility that does not consider itself too good or too exalted for humble tasks. Students will be recognized at the School Liturgy on Friday, June 17th.
Saint Rita, so gentle, pure and patient, obtain for me from thy Crucified Christ my request (mention it here). Be kind to me, for the greater glory of God, and I promise to honor you and to sing your praises forever.
Oh glorious St. Rita, who did miraculously participate in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, protect me in all my needs. Amen

From the OLM Home & School
Dear Parents,
We are trying something new this year to hopefully help the amazing teachers at OLM. It isn't easy or cheap to set up a classroom and have everything you need to create the best learning environment to benefit students…so let's help the teachers have access to what they need to do their best!
We asked the teachers to create a wish list of additional things they would like to have in their classrooms. We have created a sign up genius with the items the teachers are hoping to get. We are asking an interested families to view the wish list and help out by either purchasing a specific item off the list, a gift card to a place where the teacher could purchase an item, go in with a group of parents to purchase something or donate any items that you might have on the list that are gently used.
Please don't overlook the specials' teachers! This would be a great way to get a group of families to contribute together!
If this works the way we are hoping, we plan to have an ongoing sign up genius that teachers can add to at any time throughout the year and have parents sign up when they are able! As always, thank you for your support!
Click on the link below to take you to the sign up genius…feel free to ask teachers to clarify a specific item if you are unsure of what it is or where to purchase! When you have something ready, please contact the teacher it is for to set up the best way to get it to them!
Thank you,
Mrs. Penna

Two parent volunteers must be on-duty in the school yard - before the playground is open. This ensures the safety of ALL. Our active volunteer program not only provides valuable hands-on assistance through the school, but also benefits the children by reinforcing ties between the children’s individual homes as well as the community at large, and the school. The Lunch/Recess Duty Volunteer program is a great way to volunteer and become involved at the school.
