Bobcat Bulletin
Week of April 26th
From the Desk of Mrs. Schmid
Hello Bobcat Families,
We close out April this week and embrace our final month with our Bobcats for the 20-21 school year. It is hard to believe May is almost here!
Next week (5/3) marks the beginning of registration for the 21-22 school year. If you know your Bobcat will be returning next school year, we appreciate you registering early. Registering early allows us to configure staffing needs for the next school year.
Congratulations to our newly elected PTA Executive Board (named below)! We are extremely grateful to Layenie Grace, Annette Diaz, and Rebecca Yonan whose terms have concluded. It has been truly remarkable to experience how much the PTA does to support Brookdale Elementary' s students and staff. Thank you, Brookdale PTA!
If you are planning on requesting remote learning for your child next year, please see the information below. Deadline for submitting the form is tomorrow, 4/26.
We look forward to a great week ahead!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Principal
UPDATES
Interested in Requesting Remote Learning in 21-22? Complete the Form Below.
The district is planning on full in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year. School districts are required by the state to provide the option of remote learning only for students with medical exemptions. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), “Consistent with the updated guidance from the CDC, families of students who are at increased risk of severe illness (including those with special health care needs) or who live with people at increased risk must be given the option of remote instruction.” Remote learning will only be offered to students who meet the IDPH criteria.
To assist in our planning for next year, we are asking parents/guardians to let us know if you plan to request remote learning if your child meets the IDPH criteria. The number of students who participate in remote learning directly impacts the instructional program the district can offer. Program details and the process for applying to participate will be provided at a later date. At that time, you will be asked to provide a firm commitment for the 2021-22 school year.
Please provide your feedback by Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2021-22 School Year.

Self-Certification Reminder
We ask that parents please remember to complete self-certification before students arrive at school each morning. COVID-19 rates are increasing in our area, and it is important that parents monitor the health of their children and keep them home if they are not feeling well. Since we are following the new guidance of reducing distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet in some classrooms, more students will need to quarantine if an individual in the classroom tests positive. Please help keep our school community healthy as more students return to the classroom.
Interested in a daily morning text Remind(er) to Self-Certify your student(s) who will be attending in-person? If so, sign up for a reminder text! Text @bkdlsc to the number 81010. You will receive a welcome text from Remind and a reminder each morning from Brookdale!
Welcome Class of 2034!
Official registration will begin May 3rd. Please complete the form at the following link so we can share important information with you prior to registration. https://forms.gle/sjgCVBZgY1MR4Mhy6
Residency Verification Process
The district is again contracting with a third party vendor to automatically verify student address information. As was the case last year, we anticipate the overwhelming majority of our families will be electronically verified.
If your residency is electronically verified, you will receive a letter of confirmation and there will be no need to submit any additional paperwork to certify that you live within the district’s boundaries.
A letter will also be sent to families whose residency we are unable to verify electronically. The letter will provide details on additional information you will need to provide by May 3, 2021 in order to register your child for the upcoming school year.
Verifying residency is an effort to protect taxpayers and district resources by identifying non-residents attending District 204 schools. Illinois law mandates that parents demonstrate residency prior to enrollment in school and allows for periodic verification to validate compliance with the law.
