Between Shades of Gray
Ruta Sepetys
Summary of my book
I read the book Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. Even though this book took me like 1 1/2 months to read it's my favorite book of the year by far. It's about Lina, her brother Jonas, and their mother. All three of them get kidnapped by the NKVD one night and the book goes on to tell about how Lina and her brother survived all of the terrible stuff the did. I think that the most intense part of my book was when they dropped Ona's baby out of the "pee hole", or when the NKVD shot Ona. They travel all over Lithuania, and all they want is to get back to the town and be with their father. During the "adventure", Lina meets the guy named Andrius who she ends up falling for even though he can be rude. There is definitely some parts in this book that you will need to be older to understand but it's just such an amazing book. The end of the book really yanks at your heart, but make sure you read the Epilogue, it's probably the best part of the book.
Review
I really liked this book. Even though I thought it was gonna be all girly, I sucked it up and read it and loved it. I would tell anybody who likes books to read this book. It's probably the best book that I've read all year. Lots of cliffhangers, and surprises. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars it's just a great read.
Element of War
This book really didn't focus on the the Holocaust, and Adolf Hitler. It did though refer to Hitler and the holocaust but that wasn't the main focus. It mostly focused on how Lina and her family got kidnapped by the NKVD and her story on how she survived.
How did this change me?
I think this book changed me by showing me what life is worth living for. At one point in the book, if I was in the spot I would've been like the old man all he wanted was to die and you definitely find out that life is
worth living for.
