Farewell to Another School Year!

Grewenow. We are Great; we are Growing!

Principal's Message

Have a safe and fun summer everyone!

As the school year draw to a close, we've celebrated the accomplishments of our students growth and learning and sent our 5th grade students to middle school with a fond farewell. We wish all of our families a safe, fun summer. Capitalize on that warm weather by getting outside, there are a number of summer programs offered by the City of Kenosha through the library and parks & recreation department, and of course for those students who have registered the first day of summer school is Monday, June 24th (at Southport Elementary).

See you in August and take care Grewenow

In case you missed it...

Now that the school year has to a close, we have much to celebrate this school year. Here are some of the notes and numbers that stand out:

Academically

  • Grewenow was name a Title I School of Recognition for the 4th year in a row. Only 114 schools statewide were recognized this year.
  • Fall to spring, a 6% increase in the students who met their reading targets on reading MAP assessment
  • Fall to spring, a 4% increase in the students who met their reading targets on reading MAP assessment

(Those seem like small numbers, but they are substantial gains based on testing norms of expected growth a student should make throughout the year)

School Culture

On the student culture survey administered to our grade 2-5 students this year

  • 88.1% of students feel safe at school*

    • Only 2% reported they do not

  • 86.8% of students believe their teacher cares about them*

    • Only 3.5% reported “no”

  • 91.1% of students report their teacher believes they can learn*

    • Only 1.4% reported “no”:

Research shows, all three of these items are indicators have a significant impact on student success at school

*Note: "I don't know" was also an option for students which accounts
for the difference in "yes" and "no" percentages not equaling 100.

  • We've also seen a 27% decrease in student discipline referrals compared to last year.

There is much to celebrate, take pride in, and build upon for next school year.
