Digital Media Center Update

December 2015

How can it be December already? However we got here - we're here and we have a few more weeks to go before break. How can you keep your students engaged? Read on for some suggestions to help you use your great Digital Media Center tools to do just that!

December Ideas

December is the longest short month of the year! There are still lots of great learning opportunities, though. Read on for some suggestions...

  • World holidays are a popular subject this time of year. Look for the Holidays section on the sidebar of any CultureGrams country page. World Book Kids and Student have resources to help students learn about every major winter holiday--just search! Check out ProQuest's blog about New Years' statistics here. Try searching Learn360 for "winter holidays" and filter by your students' grade levels, or search for an individual holiday or country to see how it is celebrated. Check out the series "Holiday Classics" for lots of fun 20-30 minute videos for your students (if you're already logged in, the link will take you straight to them!)

  • Hour of Code/Computer Science education week is December 7-11. Is your school participating? Check out what other schools are doing using the Proquest search tool, narrowing by year and sorting most recent articles to the top.

Feature of the Month

Learn360 Updates Coming soon

Learn360 will be launching a new interface in January, featuring a better search engine, redesigned interface, and faster loading. This should be a huge boost to an already great tool. We can't wait to see it! Here's a video with a sneak peek of what's coming up.

Training Available

I'm available to train staff in Digital Media Center subscriber districts on the use of these great tools and how to integrate them in your classroom. If your district hasn't set up a training yet, please contact me to find out more.

Upcoming Events at ESD 112

New Course Registration System

If you've ever used ESC Web to register for classes at ESD 112, you'll notice a change when you visit our Professional Learning Catalog. ESD 112 recently launched Enroller, a new tool to help you view course offerings, register for classes, and keep track of your registration and clock hours. It's a great, user-friendly site and works wonderfully on your mobile device as well as your computer.

If you had an account in our old registration system, it's been migrated to Enroller, but you'll need to reset your password. Check it out now--look for the link in the blue box at top right to get into the new system. Then browse the site to view currently planned events, and keep your eye on the site for more winter professional development offerings--including online classes to help you get the clock hours you need! Feel free to email me with any questions.
