Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
Thank you all for Getting Up and Giving so generously on North Texas Giving Day, which kicked off our 2019-2020 Annual Fund Campaign. Together, we raised $43,417 and with the addition of our generous anonymous Matching Funds Donation, that brings us to a grand total of $45,917! This year, monies donated on North Texas Giving Day will be used for campus improvements including continued updates to our school security systems, continued development of the Outdoor Learning Center and playground repairs, Curriculum Resources, and equipment replacement.
This year, we invited faculty, staff, families, and the SMG community to create a FUNdraising page, allowing them to give a personal testimonial about SMG, set a donation goal, and share the page with their families and friends on social media or via other electronic communications such as emails.Twenty-four FUNdraising pages were created and many met or exceeded their donation goal! The faculty and staff had a little friendly competition with a FUNdraising Page Challenge. Congratulations to 1st Grade Mrs. Girton/Mrs. Watson whose FUNdraising page raised $1589, and Ms. Meurer's 2nd Grade class who came in second with a total of $1063! First grade will enjoy a Pizza Party Lunch and 2nd Grade an ice cream treat after lunch one day in the near future! All students, faculty, and staff will enjoy a Jeans Day next Friday, September 27th!
Next, we are fast approaching the annual Kountry Karnival and Fun Run coming up on October 5 & 6! Kountry Karnival Raffle Tickets were sent home with students last week and are being sold after Masses beginning this weekend.
If you haven't purchased your Kountry Karnival T-shirts yet, the store is open until 11:59PM on Sunday, September 29th. T-shirts purchased will NOT be available for pick up or sent home with students until Friday, October 4th. Since October 4th is a noon dismissal, the school office will only be opened until 3:00PM that day. Visit the link below to purchase.
Also, there's still time to register for the KK Fun Run, which will kick off the Kountry Karnival on Saturday, October 5th. You do not have to be a runner to participate--walkers are welcome too! See below for more information.
Finally, join us this Tuesday evening for SMG Spirit Night at Urban Air Adventure Park. See flyer below for details.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Virtus Training
All school volunteers over the age of 18 must complete the required Diocesan Safe Environment training, also referred to as VIRTUS training, prior to volunteering.
This training consists of an in person class and a criminal background check. After completing the training, your certification is good for 2 years. After 2 years, you will need to complete a renewal course. You may not volunteer at school until we receive notification of your completion of the training course, and until your background check clears. This includes all school related activities such as lunch monitor, playground monitor, field trip chaperone, class party helper, library volunteer, Kountry Karnival worker, and many other opportunities.
**You may not volunteer in any capacity without first completing this training. You will not receive SPIRIT hour credit for hours completed without training.
Here is the link to set up a VIRTUS account and to sign up to attend a session.
