"Every child is a winner when they try their best!!"
Re-cap of late October - November
The start of November included pedometers and the PACER...both individual and group. The PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run) is part of FITNESSGRAM. FITNESSGRAM is taking place of the President's Challenge...more information to come!
Parachute Play and Juggling came next! Students started the week playing with the parachute..."Popcorn" and "Sharks and Lifeguards" were two of the most popular activities. The intermediate classes also enjoyed a cooperative challenge that included moving a ball around the outer edge of the parachute. Most classes also enjoyed hiding from their classroom teacher as well! Juggling was introduced at the end of the week.
The week prior to Thanksgiving break students had the opportunity to play Just Dance 3 in class. Our DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) equipment that traveled between all 6 elementary schools died at the end of last year. The new system (Xbox 360 Kinect), is able to track a students FULL body movement!!! Just Dance 3 allowed 4 students to dance at the same time!
Check out the video below to see some of the students in action!

All 4th & 5th grade students at Highlands are eligible to participate in intramural floor hockey before school in the big gym. Once students have been placed on a team it is their job to check the schedule to see what time they play next. The earliest game will start at 8:33am – students playing in this game will need to be at school and ready to play by 8:30am. Games will start on-time! At the end of the regular season play, the two teams with the best record will play in the “championship” game – winners from this game will play the staff. There will also be an “all-star” team selected by Mrs. Mickschl – this team will also play against the staff.
Plastic hockey sticks and protective goggles will be provided. Officiating and scoring will be done by students throughout the season. Only non-marking running shoes may be worn in the gym, and proper gym attire is required.
Students are expected to be in the gym if they are at school for intramural floor hockey; they should not be in the hallways or classrooms prior to dismissal from the club. Failure to follow these directions will result in immediate dismissal from the floor hockey club.
T-shirts will be provided to each participant, please select the appropriate size when registering online.
The coordinator for this is Highlands PE teacher, Julie Mickschl.
Cost: $65
