- King Leopold II of Belgium gained personal control of DR of the Congo.
- Was then renamed Belgian Congo.
- Gained independence on June 30, 1960

Current Situations
DRC has been in a five year war, that has included Angola, Namibia, and Zimbabwe and against rebels backed by Uganda and Rwanda.

The Leopards
The Leopards are DRC's national football (soccer) team.
Ethnic Groups
There are as many as 250 ethnic groups, but many people are Luba, Mongo, and Bakongo. The main language spoken is French, and the secondary languages are Kongo, Swahili, Lingala. Major religions are Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Christian.
