Message from the Director

These few weeks between Thanksgiving and Winter Break are always interesting in schools. Teachers are working hard to get some important teaching and learning in while the students have cabin fever. Winter weather becomes a consideration and the long Winter Break is looming. I also know that our community continues to prioritize staying healthy while somehow still maintaining consistent school attendance. (More on attendance below!)

All of that aside, there is also some fun winter events coming up this month! Four grade levels will have a winter music concert, a few grades have field trips, a holiday Movie Night on December 6, and winter holiday celebrations on December 21.

If you're interested, please join us for our first Partners in Education volunteer group meeting on Friday, December 2 at 8:30. Or, there's another opportunity to get involved by attending our School Accountability and Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday, December 6 at 5:30pm. Drop your kids off at the Movie Night and join us to discuss Adventure's plans for continuous school improvement.

I hope all of you had a healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving with family and friends. Looking forward to some joyful winter fun with our Adventure Crew!

Winter Weather

Winter is upon us! Winter weather can sometimes cause Mapleton to delay school start times or close for the safety of students and staff. We will try to give families plenty of notice before a weather-related school delay or closure. Families will be notified of either a late start or cancelation with either a call, text, or email. If you don’t have an Infinite Campus parent portal account, please contact the main office to create one or update your contact information. Local television and radio stations will have weather-related delays and closure information as well as Mapleton’s Facebook page and website at www.mapleton.us.

On a delayed start day, school will begin two hours later than the usual start time which means Adventure students begin at 10:10. Bus pick-up times would also be delayed by two hours. AM PK classes are cancelled on late start days; PM PK classes begin at the regular time.

Winter Music Concerts

Ms. Nonies is planning winter concerts for grades K-1 and 3-4. These grades will perform for the Adventure community on Friday, December 16. Families are welcome to join us! The 3rd and 4th graders will perform at 9:15; the kindergarteners and 1st graders will perform at 2:15.

We're also planning for a special Valentine's Day concert for the 2nd graders, stay tuned!

Student Council Updates

Adventure's Student Council is planning a holiday Movie Night for Tuesday, December 6 at 5pm. We will be watching the Christmas Chronicles! Tickets will be sold at school through December 2. Prices per person:

Movie: $2

Movie, Soda, Popcorn: $5

Student Council is also selling Candy Grams between December 5 and 13. Candy Grams cost $1 and will be delivered to students on December 16. You can buy them at Movie Night or at school.

Winter Celebrations

December 19, 20, and 21 will be Spirit Week at Adventure to celebrate the winter holidays! Additionally, all of Adventure's students will celebrate with classroom parties at the end of the day on Wednesday, December 21. More details coming soon!

Attendance Matters!

As our society transitions out of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are also navigating a significant rise in other respiratory illnesses such as RSV. It is important that we all take care of ourselves and stay home when we are sick. It is also important that we attend school each and every day that we are well. "Chronic absence--missing 10% or more of school days due to absence for any reason--excused, unexcused absences, and suspension--can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the 3rd grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school." (AttendanceWorks.org)

As a school, we monitor attendance each day and wish to support students and their families in removing the barriers to consistent attendance. Part of that requires us to communicate concerns as we notice a pattern. As such, we send attendance letters each month. Please review Adventure's detailed attendance policy here.

During the weeks between Thanksgiving and Winter Break, all our classes are participating in a competition to increase our daily attendance rate. Currently, most of Adventure's grade levels have an average rate below 90%. Mapleton promotes a daily attendance rate of 97%. Please reach out to someone in the main office if your family could use help with attendance!

Maintaining Focus in Classrooms

Please help your student's teacher by reminding your child to keep their toys, Pokemon cards, etc. at home. We've noticed an increase in peer conflict related to these items and it can be hard for students to focus on their academics. Thanks in advance for your help!
