Introducing Miss Laylan!
Hello! I’m Kassie Laylan, and I will be working in your child’s classroom, under Megan Zavernik, as a student teacher! The reason I actually chose to work with Megan in her classroom was because of my younger sister, who had Mrs. Zavernik as her teacher when she was in fourth grade. Whenever she talked about a favorite teacher or a “best classroom experience”, she always brought up her fourth grade teacher. I am very excited to take on this responsibility and learn from an awesome teacher!
Although my younger sister attended Forest Glen Elementary School, I did not have the opportunity to be a Timbertail. My family moved from the La Crosse area and did not actually move to the Howard area until I began Middle School. I did graduate from Bay Port, however! Go Pirates! Now, I currently attend the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and look forward to graduating in May 2018!
I live with my parents, Mike and Lori, my twin sister, Macie, and my younger sister, Callie. I love cats and have two of them at home--Oreo and Winston. I love theatre and dance, which is actually the minor on my degree, and I actively participate in the shows on campus. I also love traveling, being active, spending time with my friends and family, painting, and playing the piano.
Thanks for reading! See you around the classroom!

Talk to your child about their learning!
- What did you decide to do for your civic action project?
- What was your job when you helped at the Giving Tree?
- Talk about the hook you used in your opinion essay!
- What is your SMART Goal and are you on track to achieve it?
Here's What We're Working On....
Writing: Check your students' writing binder! You'll find their thesis statement, reasons and evidence to support their thinking. Our little "essayists" are working hard to learn the writing moves of this genre.
Social Studies: This week students got into groups and are beginning to research a Foundation, Organization or Person that has modeled the idea of civic action/civic responsibility. Students are identifying what they can do to fulfill their responsibility to be an active participant in making our world a better place!
Spelling: New Sort Next Week! Please check in each week and have your child show you his/her spelling assessment score. Again, they should be practicing their words at home every night!
Reading: We're becoming book reviewers! Please make sure your child is reading his/her good fit book at home every night!
