ECLC Class News
Week of 5/9-5/13
What we did this week ...
Our centers and books were based upon Pete the Cat, a favorite of the students. I read I Love my White Shoes, Pete the Cat-Robo Cat, and Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons.
The students colored Pete's shoes by color sight word. They sorted out Pete the Cat buttons by real words and nonsense words. They counted by tens and spelled sight words, using play dough. They completed a recalling activity after we read I Love my White Shoes. The kids enjoyed the Pete the Cat you tube videos I played for them. They both contain songs that they enjoyed singing along with.
The students are doing great with dictation. I tell them a word or segment the word into its sounds.
I was so excited to see the kids all grouped together, and reading the other day after snack. I am glad they are taking an interest in books.
Due to our small class size, I have been spending one on one time with each student. I have each child read to me or answer questions about a book. They are all doing great.
Other things we did this week ....
In phonics, the students tapped out sounds to read nonsense words and words that contained digraphs. The students used magnetic boards to spell out words. They wrote words or sounds that were dictated to them.
We learned the sight word his this week. We also played a sight word game this week.
Have a great weekend.
