Otoe County 4-H Wednesday What-Nots
January 18, 2023
Please reserve a table or provide a donation item for the upcoming banquet.....
The Otoe County 4-H Foundation's 10th Annual Banquet is coming up on February 4th. Please call the office with any questions.
Better BaC's 150 Project
The Better BaC's are working on collecting 150 of each project they undertake to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Otoe County Fair. In January, they are collecting Mittens/Gloves/Socks. All items will be donated in the Otoe County area. If you want to help them meet their goals, you can drop off items here at the Extension Office. Clubs and families can do their own ideas as well. We would like people to report their success whether it is 150 or not so we can compile the success of Otoe County for the fair. If clubs get a 150-achievement project, we would love to hear about that as well.
State Fair Changes for 2023
Message for Families, Newsletters, and Exhibitors:
With each new State Fair season, brings new possibilities and opportunities for 4-H families in Nebraska. The opportunity for 4-H to continue having its own weekend allows more flexibility for new events, entry limits, schedules, and space. We want to continue to take advantage of that!
As part of that process, we continue to explore age eligibility requirements for State Fair participation. After garnering user input, researching data from other events/shows/states, and looking that overall impact on youth development, the decision has been made to change the age of eligibility in 2023 to be 9 years of age before January 1 (of the current year) for all in-person events (livestock, contests, fashion shows).
More information will be forthcoming.
Be sure to get enrolled!
Just log into your account using last year's information, make any changes or updates to emails, phone numbers and addresses, select the project areas you are interested in, answer all questions (there are only 2 required questions under the health form.) and be sure to hit the submit button. Mark your calendars–Big Red Camps will be June 11-16, 2023. More details will be coming soon.
Horse Exhibitors:
Beginning in 2023, participation in a District 4-H Horse Show will not be required to participate in the State 4-H Horse Show. This is also similar to the process used by other state livestock events (i.e., State Fair, AKSARBEN, etc.) and will allow more youth the opportunity to experience the State 4-H Horse Show. As safety is always our most important concern, being able to provide more opportunities for learning through workshops and clinics will allow youth to increase their skills and further develop with their project horse(s) in preparation for the State 4-H Horse Show.
Please cash any checks you have from the Ag Society and the 4-H Council, in order to keep our books straight, need to have those checks cashed!!!!
Thanks!
