Gladiator News
Dr. Hector P. Garcia Middle School Newsletter
May 30- June 2, 2017
This will be the last edition of Gladiator News for the school year. We are fortunate to have the parental support and involvement that we do at Garcia. Thank you for being an integral part of your child's education. It takes all of us working together for the success of the students.
Tuesday, May 30th will be 8th grade field day. Students must return a signed permission slip in order to participate in the games portion of the day. Students may wear their gym shorts with the turquoise class shirt or a Garcia shirt. The staff has worked hard to organize a fun filled day. I know the students will enjoy the event!
Mark your calendar to attend Market Day on August 16th. Market Day is a come and go event from 8:00-5:00 pm in the cafeteria. Students may purchase a school planner, PE uniforms, buy a yearbook, join PTA, purchase a school shirt, get their schedule and locker, talk to transportation, etc. Each station is a different group, so either bring cash or checks to pay. (PTA takes credit cards!)
Thank you for a successful school year. Back to school letters will be mailed in late July.
It's a GREAT day to be a Gladiator!

Young Authors at Garcia
To be able to describe yourself as an author is quite a feat, and to accomplish this in middle school is even more impressive. We are lucky to have students who truly have the intrinsic desire to write. Writing is a challenging process in itself: an enigma of the mind, a process of journey and exploration of self and creativity, and often times unseen. Stephen King once wrote, “You can approach the act of writing with nervousness, excitement, hopefulness, or even despair--the sense that you can never completely put on the page what's in your mind and heart...You can come to it because you...want to change the world. Come to it any way but lightly. Let me say it again: you must not come lightly to the blank page.” And, so we have thirteen young writers here at Garcia Middle School that did just that. They wrote! They wrote with heart! They wrote to be published in Northside’s Young Authors’ Anthology.
Tuesday, May 23, we celebrated these young authors with a breakfast, awards ceremony, and a time to skype with the author, Haroon Monis. We would like to congratulate these young writers! Please remind them to keep writing, filling that blank page with another piece of themselves! Students honored included: Isabelle Bangerter, Gabriel Botello, Georgia Decker, Carolina Espinoza, Britton Frances, Brett Lasater, Landon Mayfield, Neriah Olivier, Leala Punjabi, Lana Rafati, Eriana Reetz, Addison Surrett, and Baig Zainub.
