Positive Comments or Emails Received This Week
Good morning Dr. Fellhauer,
I just wanted to take a minute to let you know I was very happy to see the changes made in the character trait awards assembly. My daughter has won a few at her time at UWE and last week was the first time that I got to really understand why she was selected. I really appreciated that they read them at the assembly and that it is printed on the award so that she was able to share it with the rest of the family.
I have seen a lot of positive changes this year and just wanted to say thank you!
Have a good day ~

Good Things to Talk About
A HUGE thank you to Kelly Lewis for establishing herself as a good support for our SpEd department. As I mentioned to you the other, I'm amazed at the knowledge you have and ability to leave a building, walk into another, and start talking about kids as if you were in the mix all day working with them. This proves to me that you are organized, thoughtful, and caring for our students and staff. We know in the SpEd world it can be particularly challenging, but you handle things gracefully. I appreciate you!
I would like to thank Kay, Andi, Leslie, Rachel, Debbie, Abbey, and Muckey for supporting the idea of having a veteran assembly (all staff as far as that goes) and working so hard behind to scenes to make this come to fruition. I'm hopeful this event becomes an annual tradition and something that can bring us all together as a community. In the last S'more, I asked, "What swells your heart or what is something that causes your heart to be swollen?" My personal response to this question...when hard-working adults come together in an environment that is built on trust, respect, focused on challenging the status quo to plan and organize events that bring people together for the common good. Again, thanks to you all. You influence daily!
I would like to thank our hardworking SpEd department. My goodness, you have a tough job but you seem to embrace the challenge and work hard to support our students. Words can't express my gratitude with your continued effort. You inspire me daily and I look forward to learning from you in this arena as it seems to change daily. Talk about modeling flexibility, perseverance, and living to the commitment of CHALLENGING THE STATUS QUO, holy moly! I need to add that you challenge with grace and professionalism. Keep up the outstanding work!
I would like to thank the staff for always providing me GRACE this year. This week and last I've been perhaps scattered a bit in preparation for our Veteran Assembly. I want this to be PERFECT for our community and for our students and staff. Additionally, we have met often this year to discuss many things and I'm so happy that Leslie and I are starting to get our heads around everything UWE and R7. With trying to understand, I've asked a lot of you in terms of many questions, extended time for meetings, etc. I CANNOT express my gratitude and respect for you. Thank you for your grace and because of this, I go to each night excited because I can't wait for the next day to continue our mission together. #underwoodproud
Staff KUDOS
Sarah Contois & Karen Bannister
Thanks to these two wonderful ladies for making sure that Glen had all he needed while I was gone to Jamaica. Not only did they make copies, etc. for specific lessons, but they also spent numerous plan times figuring out RtI groups. I am very blessed and very grateful!! ~ Lori MerriganJerrod, Leslie, Kay, Andi, Jenn, & Debbie
Thank you all for embracing the Pen Pal program with our Jamaican friends! I cannot tell you how excited the students (both UWE and St. Jago) are about receiving each other's letters! And this excitement spread quickly from the students to the adults, which is SO cool! It seems like each time Emily goes, more and more of the teachers/staff want to join in on the fun! This time was no different. I appreciate you all! ~ Karen Bannister
UWE Staff
Thanks to all of you who donated supplies for my trip to Harmons, Jamaica. All the items made it to their destination! Now, they will be reasonably priced and put in their "Blessings Store". Jamaicans are proud to be able to provide for their families. Thank you for helping give a "hand up", not just a "hand out". ~ Karen Bannister

Thanks, Kay Jones for fixing my costume at Boo at the School! I had a leaky battery in my costume and she got me cleaned up and ready to go! What a mom! ~ Muckey

Sarah Contois
Click here to send me your information. Thank you!
What brought you here?
I grew up in Lee’s Summit, so this district is like my home! The last building I taught at was just 5-6 and I missed the elementary feel.
When you're not working, how do you like to spend your time?
I like to spend my time reading, working out, hanging out with my friends, family, and husband. I like to travel and do anything outside! I love to play board games and catch up on tv shows.
What are you reading currently?
I am currently reading a fiction book called, The Break Down. The book is by author B. A. Paris. She is an amazing author that also wrote a book called Behind Closed Doors. Crazy suspenseful, and sort of a psychological thriller-my favorite!
What’s the first concert you attended?
I’ve only ever been to one real concert and it was Red, White, and Boom - a concert put on by a radio station in the area.
What’s your hidden talent?
I love to film things and take pictures! I was going for a media degree before I switched to education, and I’m sure it will always be a passion of mine!
If you had to eat one thing for every meal going forward, what would you eat?
RICE! Spanish or fried rice is my favorite!
What's one thing about you that surprises people?
I’m really into learning about my heritage and ancestors. My hope is to make a documentary where I interview all of my living relatives on film and incorporate pictures of their childhood. I want to be able to keep their stories alive for generations to come.
What was something you've done that made you feel extreme happiness?
Getting married!
What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen a student do?
Have a kid call me “mommy” (second grader) and then realize what he had done. The look on his face was priceless.
Would you rather be the best player on a horrible team OR the worst player on a great team?
The best player on a horrible team because I would still be humble and hopefully be able to help teach others how to perfect the sport! I would motivate all my teammates!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you choose one person to keep you company, who would it be? What about one animal?
I would choose my husband! I know he would help me stay strong! If I had to choose one animal I would choose my kitten, Sophie. I feel bad for not also mentioning my other kitten Mya...but her and I don’t really click...
Do you ever find there are things about you that people misunderstand? What are they?
In group settings, I’m usually pretty quiet and shy at first. Sometimes I think it comes across to people that I’m not interested! I like to listen, analyze, and then contribute - so it takes some time!
If you could have one 'do over' in your life, what would you do differently?
If I could go back in time and do one thing differently I would have spent more time with my grandma before she passed away.
If someone were to play you in a movie, who would you want it to be?
I would choose Rachel McAdams to play me in a movie. She is beautiful, seems to have a great personality, and I have loved every movie I’ve seen her in.
What’s something that people think makes them look cool, but makes them look ridiculous?
People think they look cool when they have a know-it-all attitude. I think they come across as way too aggressive and lack the ability to learn from others.
