Fort Sumter
South Carolina seceded from the Union in December 1860.
Anderson had made his 85 soldiers line up in defense of safety for there
men. Anderson was running low of food sources only about six weeks left
of supplies. At 4:30 am they had opened fire on Fort Sumter and it had lasted for 34 hours.
Antietam
The battle of antietam was in September 16 - 18, 1862. George McClellan was the commander during the time for the Union. There Confederate commander was Robert E. Lee. There was a total of 131,000 soldiers and there was 87,000 Union and 45,000 Confederates.
Vicksburg
This battle took place in May 18 - July 4, 1863. There was a total of 110,000 soldiers and 77,00 of them were Union and 33,000 were Confederate. At the time the Union commander was Ulysses S. Grant and the Confederate was John C. Pembreton. On July 4, 1863 the Mississippi River was under the Unions hands. At the end of the war the Unions had won.
Gettysburg
Robert had led his army into its second invasion of the north Gettysburg. He had collected a lot of supplies in Pennsylvania farmland. His goal was to threaten the Northern Cities and weaken there appetite for war. On July 1, 1863 the big war had started. With 93,921 Union soldiers and 71,699 Confederate soldiers making a total of 165,620 solders. On July 2, Lee had launched heavy assaults on the union.
Sherman’s March To The Sea
July 21 Sherman’s three armies were still more or less separated. He had planed to drop back from their outer lines north of the city on July 21-22. It was not as big of a battle like the other ones but still had 75,301 soldiers in it. With 34,863 of them were Union and 40,438 were Confederates. At the end of the battle the Union had defeated the Confederates.
Fort Fisher
Fort Fisher took place in New Hanover NC. The was was from January 13-15 of 1865. They had prepared for attack on General Robert Hoke’s infantry line. The attack had happened in the late afternoon of the 15th. There was 1341 Union and 583 confederate.
Appomattox court house
This battle had happened on April 9, 1865. It had took place in Appomattox Virginia The attack, 8:00 am that was led by General Bryan had 89,285 soldiers. 63,285 were Union and 26,000 were confederate.
