Happy October Winston Campus Family!
Our students and staff have been working so hard as they kicked off the school year with such a strong start!
In the month of September, we have proudly been able to benchmark our students to understand them as learners and provide rigorous instruction and intervention that allows us to focus on closing the achievements gap. Students have regularly participated in Social Emotional Learning lessons focusing on collaboration, partner work, and creating strong relationships. Students also participated in an all school virtual field trip with Marisela Tapia, Flamenco Dancer from Spain to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!
Please kindly take a moment to review our expectations as we plan for this years Halloween celebration!
Students are encouraged to bring a costume to school that can easily be put on over their clothing. Please review and follow the below guidelines when choosing a costume this year. Comfort is always key as well!
Page 22 - Parent/Student Handbook
Per the Student Handbook: Students are permitted to wear costumes on Halloween as long as their attire complies with the above student appearance policy and meets the following set of expectations for a school setting:
Children should not wear bloody, gruesome, or especially scary costumes. Costumes involving fake blood are not allowed.
Actual weapons, look-alike weapons, toy weapons or weapon-like objects are not allowed.
Masks that cover the face and head are not allowed.
Costume make-up is allowed provided it does not cover the student’s entire face. Staff members must be able to identify students.
Costumes that could be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype about someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not allowed.
Costumes should follow our school dress code.
We value our partnership with you! Please let us know how we can support you and your child
Kindest Regards,
Marilynn Smith, Principal
A Look Back at the Week!
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe at WCE!
Students that are caught going above and beyond being respectful, responsible, or safe, may earn a SHOOTING STAR. A SHOOTING STAR is equal to a GOLDEN TICKET and may be spent at our Wing Store!
WCE Staff thanks you for taking the time to speak to your child about Being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe at School!
Walk -A-Thon 2022 IS A SUCCESS!
The WCE PTA supports the broader mission of the PTA which is:
To make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
This year, the WCE PTA was excited to once again host their Walk-A-Thon to raise money in order to support different opportunities offered to students and staff throughout the school year. Just a few opportunities offered are: Donuts with Grown Ups, Monthly Rec Nights, Family BINGO Night, and Multicultural Night.
On behalf of the students, staff, and PTA, THANK YOU! With the support from all of the Winston community, the WCE PTA surpassed their goal and raised more than $2, 800! We appreciate all of the support received from our Winton Community!
Please join us at our next PTA General Membership meeting on Monday, October 3rd at 5 PM to see how you can help!
Thank you!

Health Forms
For the purpose of safeguarding the health of children, District 15 enforces Illinois student health requirements. These requirements consist of health, dental, and eye exams and immunizations specific to grade and age.
Health exams are required for students entering pre-school, kindergarten, sixth grade, and those who are new to the school. The Certificate of Child Health Examination form is available online and in the school office.
The exam form, completed and signed by a licensed healthcare provider, must be dated within one year prior to the first day of school and must include lead screening for children who are six years or younger and diabetes screening.
Health forms can be brought to the school office at any time.
On October 15, students who have not provided a health exam or required immunizations will be excluded from school. Students new to Illinois schools, who register mid-term, have 30 days following registration to comply with the health requirements.
For more information on specific health forms needed, visit the Health Services website.
This presentation will be in English with translation provided as requested. All participants must RSVP in advance of the meeting.
