Artificial Intelligence in Education

Whether we realize it or not, in the future almost every one of us will engage with some form of artificial intelligence regularly. Almost all people use AI tools for maps and navigation, or face recognition on a cell phone, but these technologies are quickly changing and improving. Recently AI intersected with education in a new way with a program called ChatGPT. This is a very impressive writing tool, but also ones that bring about concerns of what does represent a students work and how this will impact everything from creativity to future written work. As we navigate this exciting tool and new challenge, we want students to know that the work they turn in needs to be a representation of their original work. If they are using AI for any component of work represented as their own, they need to check with the teacher in advance.

As the world of education navigates this new technology, I’m confident we will learn how to better incorporate it and manage it. In the short term, we would ask student to understand the limits of its expected use, and for parents to support that students work needs to represent their work. A quick google search will teach you lots about this artificial intelligence, but this tech blog provides a brief overview of what ChatGPT is and how it is being used.
