NEWS AND NOTES
New Chromebooks
The School District of Springfield Township is excited to announce that all students at the HIgh School are receiving new Chromebooks. The latest edition can be used as a tablet, has a touch screen, two built-in cameras, and comes with a stylus pen. With all of the added features we are asking all of our students to do their best to keep the devices free from damage.
All of the devices come with a manufacturer’s Accidental Damage Policy (ADP) in that if the device is accidentally damaged, it will be repaired free of charge. Some things of note:
The warranty only covers one repair per machine so the student is responsible for all charges after the first incident.
Once the cover is taken off or the damage is purposeful, the ADP is no longer viable. If a student damages the Chromebook while the cover is off, they will be responsible for the payment of the repairs.
If the student intentionally commits an act of vandalism to the device, they will be responsible for the payment of the repairs.
If the entire device needs to be replaced it is a cost of $620; repairing just the screen would be $440; repairing the keyboard with the camera would be $100; replacing the stylus pen is a cost of $60; a new charger would be $50; the protective cover costs $50 to replace; and repairing the touchpad is $25. We are currently looking into insurance plans for families.
If students do not wish to keep the stylus pen then they will have to turn it in, with their name attached, to Dr. Zgraggen’s office.
Daily Symptom Checking
Especially as we experience high rates of transmission across the county and township, families are strongly encouraged to use the Covid Symptom Check Daily. If your child has symptoms, please keep them home from school.
We continue to diligently encourage prevention strategies in school with social distancing and masking. We also ask for your support in encouraging your children to remain masked the entire time when riding the buses. Thank you!

The Hall of Fame nomination form is open and we have begun accepting nominations for next year’s Hall of Fame Ceremony. Science and Engineering Internship
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) provides an opportunity for high school students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. The goals of SEAP are to encourage participating high school students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further their education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN. SEAP is providing competitive research internships to 300 high school students this year. Participating students spend eight weeks during the summer doing research at 37 DoN laboratories. Please check out this website, for more information. Please note that applications close on Nov 1, 2021 for summer 2022.
