OSSB Graphics Class Visits Almendinger Sawmill, Johnstown
Our Graphic’s students recently took a field trip to the Almendinger Sawmill in Johnstown, Ohio. Jana, Garrett, Maddie, Jayla, Sara and Jonathon were given a tour of the property so that they were able to explore the sawmill operations. Large logs are brought in to the sawmill and from there the wood is sorted by type of wood, debarked, sawed into various widths and lengths, and kiln-dried for anywhere from 6 months to a year. Nothing is wasted and the wood is sold in all forms: piece-size and type, mulch, sawdust, and firewood. At the end of the tour, we were able to buy several board feet of walnut to make trophies for our NCASB sports. – Mr. Grim

Exciting News from OSU Students/OSSB 3D Model Club Volunteers
In their pitch last week, Garrett Carder of A Cubed Design – explained how they aim to create low-cost braille displays in order to reduce the braille literacy crisis. Through an expandable device, A Cubed Design plans to build a user ecosystem in order to combine the process of learning and using braille in everyday life. We are excited to announce that Garrett, Caroline and teammate Enan were chosen as one of six winners, and will receive $50,000 to bring their pitch to life! More information can be found by watching their video pitch. Read more about the pitch finale here. Congratulations to Garrett and Caroline and thank you so much for your commitment to the students and staff of OSSB during these last four years. We are so proud of you! ~ Mrs. Lauri Kaplan
