The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is thrilled to announce a new high school program called, Internship Pathways. Incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors are invited to apply and will be matched to career areas they are interested in exploring. Internship positions are expected to include: Agricultural Science, Education, Engineering technology, Environmental Science, Graphic Design, Marketing, Natural Resource Management, Photography, and Web Design.
There are three overarching goals of the Internship Pathways program:
- provide an outlet for students to explore a career path;
- Provide an opportunity for students to gain training and skills in a specific career field;
- Afford an opportunity for students to earn elective high school credit.
Internships as a Stepping Stone to a Career Path
Internships are 30 hours in length and are either paid or unpaid training opportunities. So far, several community organizations have enthusiastically offered to host high school interns. Examples include an early childhood education internship opportunity with the Wilsonville Public Library, a digital marketing internship with the Clackamas River Basin Council (an environmental non-profit organization), and a summer camp counselor internship with Clackamas Community College among others. Learn more about opportunities on the CREST website. If your business or organization is interested in hosting high school interns please complete the Internship Host Interest form.
Steps to the Internship Pathways Program
There are five main steps for students to participate in the program:
- Students apply online indicating internship interest areas;
- Students talk with their high school counselor for approval to participate;
- If a matching partner is available students are interviewed by the Internship Coordinator;
- Students arrive at their internship site and test-drive a specific career field;
- Students complete career exploration assignments.
Please note that internship opportunities are limited. To learn more about these opportunities or to apply for an internship please visit the district website.
