A Note from Mr. Hofer
Happy New Year!! I hope you and your family had a great holiday season. It's hard to believe we will be starting the 2nd semester on January 4th. We will be returning to our Hybrid Learning Model where Group A students will attend in-person on Mondays and Thursdays and have remote learning days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Group B students will attend in-person on Tuesdays and Fridays and have remote learning days on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The groups remain the same as they were in the 1st semester. If you intend to change your child's learning model, please let us know ASAP.
**Please note the change in attendance days the week of January 18th.
- January 18th: No School
- January 19th: Group A Day
- January 20th: Group B Day
- January 21st: Group A Day
- January 22nd: Group B Day
Thank you for your continued efforts at home to help your child(ren). This school year has been challenging in so many ways and will definitely be one we don't forget anytime soon. I look forward to our continued partnership during the 2nd semester.
Take care!

Nursing Notes-COVID Reminders
We look forward to seeing all the students back at Southwest. In order to keep us in school and continue moving forward, please remember these few guidelines related to COVID:
When students arrive at Southwest for in person learning, they will have their temperature checked. If it is 100.4 or higher, they will be sent home.
If your child develops any new COVID-like symptoms while at school, they will also be sent home and need to be evaluated. These include:
- fever - vomiting
- headache - diarrhea
- shortness of breath - abdominal pain
- cough - congestion/runny nose
- sore throat - loss of sense of taste or smell
- nausea - fatigue
- muscle or body aches
If your child develops any of these COVID-like symptoms while at home, please call them in on the attendance line or the front office to let the school know. We are required to follow the guidelines set by the IDPH for evaluating COVID like symptoms. We will make the determination on when your child can return to in person learning after speaking with you.
If you have a sick child at home and more than one student in the school district, regardless of the grade level, ALL students in the family need to stay home until you have spoken with a school nurse.
If you find out your child was exposed to a positive case or probable case of COVID or gets a positive COVID test, please keep them home and call the school to let us know . Students in quarantine or isolation will be switched over to full remote during that time. We are working along side the Health Dept to determine the safest return to school date for each case.
Please call the school at anytime if you have any questions. Here's the updated COVID-19 Interim Exclusion Guidance.

Changes in Transportation
If your child has a change in their normal routine for transportation:
- Please send a written note to your child(ren)'s teacher informing them of the change.
- Indicate on the note the name of anyone other than yourself that may be picking up your child.
- If the change happens during the school day, a call needs to be made by 1:00 pm in order to ensure communication and changes get relayed on time.
- Do not email transportation changes to your child's teacher as they may not be able to check their email during the school day.
