October Newsletter 2020
Amy Belle Elementary
Principal Corner
The first month of school has truly flown by! Even with the different start to school and the challenges we are working through on a daily basis, we are thankful for the opportunity to work with you and your students.
Second Quarter Decisions
We continue to do our best working with our students to follow the safety guidelines that we have shared with families in August. As we enter October, we will be planning forward for the second quarter. Parents will receive a survey from the School District on October 6th. This survey will ask families to make a decision regarding face to face or virtual learning for their child. The survey will be open through October 18th and will then allow the schools to adequately plan for any changes. If you have any questions please reach out to me!
Fall Conferences
We will be holding our fall conferences on the evening of Wednesday, October 21st and on Thursday, October 22nd. There is no school for students on October 22-23rd. Your child's teacher will communicate to you how conferences will be conducted for those days. Some teachers have opted to do all of their conferences virtually, while others will offer both virtual and in-person conferences.
Any family that has a teacher that offers an in-person conference, and chooses to attend in-person, will have to wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines. We ask that only the parents/guardians and the student attend the conference, leaving siblings at home.
Fall Parties
Teachers will be communicating to families regarding fall parties. We will not be allowing any volunteers or visitor for any parties. Any food/treats sent in will need to be pre-packaged and preferably sent in a day or so ahead to isolate. Please stay tuned for communication from your child's teacher!
Thank you for your continued support in this unprecedented school year. Your children have done a wonderful job so far, and we look forward to a successful fall!
Sincerely,
Katie Kohel

Food and Nutrition Department
Recently the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that school districts will be able to provide free lunch to all students through December 31, 2020 or until the funding runs out. Starting Wednesday, September 16th, all Germantown students attending classes in person will not be charged for lunch should they take hot lunch. The program also extends to virtual students, however, the meals will need to be picked up and pre-ordered using this link, https://forms.gle/UepWcs1zj6JPN5wQ8.
Amy Belle DI - Destination Imagination
The Destination Imagination program will exist at Amy Belle this year. Destination Imagination is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, curiosity and courage through academic Challenges. Our Challenges blend STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education with the arts and social entrepreneurship.
All Challenges will be virtual this year and released Nov. 1st for most challenges, December 1st for engineering and improv. There will be no Regional Tournaments this year. All teams will advance to a state virtual affiliate tournament. All challenge submissions done by April 3rd.
Amy Belle is seeking adults to be team managers. In person team meetings are allowed (masks and social distancing).
