The recruiting game is speeding up, anyone who covers or follows it knows that. Prospects are getting offered in middle school now and select freshmen and sophomores have numerous offers already. So, to stay with the times, -- the biggest and most respected service in the recruiting industry -- is making history with their earliest release ever with the class of 2017 Rivals100 and Buckhorn's very own, Will Ignont, is on the list!

Will is among seven other linebackers who made the list and one of only six athletes from Alabama. Projected to be one of the state's top linebackers in 2017, Will has already received eight offers from Alabama, Auburn, Charlotte, LSU, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tennessee, and Troy. (Not sure where I will put the additional logos when he gets more offers, which he more than likely will, guess I will just have to make a bigger poster!!)

Congratulations Will! We can't wait for the 2015 football season to start! Buck Pride!!

LC Bucks Win 4th in State Basketball Tournament

Buck Nation Surprised the LC Bucks with a Buck Walk!

First thing Thursday morning, Buck Nation started preparing to surprise the LC Bucks in a BIG way. As the Bucks ate their breakfast, they thought they would be loading the bus and heading straight to Montgomery...little did they know!!

It all started with a surprise visit from Bucky. Then the cheerleaders surprised the players with signed basketballs; the dance team greeted them with hugs and high fives! The LC Bucks were excited, in shock, and so very happy (and all the teachers were searching for tissues!) The team was told there were just a few students in the hall who wanted to wish them well before they left. So we proceeded down the hall, where the next surprise awaited them: the marvelous BHS Pep Band and a never-ending sea of Buckhorn High School students who had prepared signs to cheer on the Bucks!!

Through the halls and around the entire school, with each turn the LC Bucks were greeted with cheers and shouts from their peers - wishing them the best of luck at the state basketball tournament. You could see the pride in their eyes as they marched down the halls in their Buckhorn High School uniforms. It wasn't just pride from being on the basketball team, but it was also pride for being on the BUCK NATION TEAM.

Has your heart ever been filled with so much love and joy that you could physically feel it in your chest? Mine was about to explode that day. Amid the madness of the Buck Walk, I experienced the elusive magic that these students bring any time I interact with them. The calm. The peace. The comfort. When I am with them, I am provided with what we all really need, and that’s each other. Love. Good deeds. Connections of the heart. Swaying together arm in arm. The moment.

It's moments like these that remind me how very lucky I am to be able to work at the best school in the world.

More Surprises for the LC Bucks!!

The Bucks had an even bigger surprise in Montgomery thanks to assistant principal, Ms. April McCutcheon. They got to meet Governor Robert Bentley, Representative Mac McCutcheon, and tour the state capitol! What an awesome day, filled with never-ending surprises for them. We know this will be a very special day that they will cherish for a lifetime! Thanks Buck Nation for helping make it the BEST. DAY. EVER. #BuckPride

Save the Date - Tuesday, April 28, 2015

All 11th grade students will take the ACT Plus Writing at BHS during the school day. The Alabama State Department of Education is requiring that all 11th grade students in the state of Alabama take the ACT on the selected date. Students will not be required to pay a fee for the ACT given on April 28th.

Registration will also take place prior to the actual test date at BHS, so there is no need to register online. Please keep in mind that the April 28th test date will not appear on the ACT website because this date has been selected specifically for 11th grade students in the state of Alabama.

Students will receive more information regarding the April 28th test date as we get closer to that time. A username and password for online ACT test prep will be provided to all current eleventh graders prior to the ACT test in April.

ACT study packets can be picked up in the guidance office.

The make-up date for the ACT Plus Writing assessment will be Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

Counselor Contacts: Mrs. Dee Gordon, Mr. Dan Schwanke, Mrs. Stephanie Wheeler

Parents, or individuals acting in that capacity, are responsible for seeing that each student under his/her care and control follows school system policy and local school rules and regulations. It is also the responsibility of parents to know such policies, rules and regulations.

Car Riders

Students are NOT allowed to walk to Winchester Road to get in a car after school. ALL cars must pull onto campus to safely pick up car riders. Students who do not follow this rule will be suspended, per Mr. Markham. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.

Outside Food

Please remember that it is Buckhorn High School's Policy to NOT allow any outside food to be delivered to the school during regular school hours. (This policy does not apply to a 'brown bag' lunch that is prepared at home and brought to school by the student).

Checking Student Out of School

It is Buckhorn High School's policy to NOT allow student check-outs after 3:15 p.m.

Only custodial parent(s) will be allowed to check a student out of school, unless the custodial parent(s) has specifically designated someone else to check the student out of school. School officials will keep accurate records as to whom, what time, and for what reason students are checked out of school. [MCBOE 2014-2015 Code of Conduct, page 21 of 32, Approved July 10, 2014]

Student Publications

The Board of Education authorizes school officials to allow students to have student sponsored publications within the school, and expects the administration to monitor such publications to the extent that disruptions do not result from the contents. Student publications are subject to and will be expected to meet standards associated with responsible journalism. The principal and student publication sponsor are responsible for the content of such publications.

Student publications not approved by the Principal are not allowed, and the Principal shall not allow distribution of publications without prior approval. A certified person shall be appointed to be responsible for supervising student publications, and shall report directly to the Principal in the production of such publications. [Madison County Board of Education 2014-2015 Code of Conduct, page 5 of 32, Approved July 10, 2014]

Media Coverage of School Events

Occasionally local news media visit schools in Madison County to do special reports or follow up on certain news events. As a part of their coverage they often film certain aspects of the school.

It is the principal’s decision whether to allow news media to come into the schools and cover certain events. Extra precautions are taken when the media is covering a sensitive topic or event that might have a negative impact on the school, staff and students.

Parents who have concerns about their child possibly being filmed or photographed by the media should contact the principal. Principals will make every effort to accommodate the wishes of the parent, but it should be understood that it is very difficult to foresee every possible situation that might occur from media coverage of the schools and school events. [Madison County Board of Education 2014-2015 Code of Conduct, page 5 of 32, Approved July 10, 2014]
