News from the Principal's Office
A&M Consolidated High School
News from Elder's Desk
For the past few days, I have been researching the history of AMCHS to gain insight into what our forefathers envisioned. My research revealed that having a public school housed on the campus of Texas A&M University provided several benefits. For example, the state appropriated funds for teaching agriculture in public schools, future teachers practiced their skills to the students, and the professors and staff children would not be required to send their children to Bryan schools. Thus, on September 28, 1920, A&M Consolidated Rural School District opened its doors with 304 students and was housed on the campus of Texas A&M University. Furthermore, the first graduation ceremony was held on May 31, 1922. Though t-shirts, sweatshirts and other printed memorabilia recognize that AMCHS was established in 1940, that information is inaccurate! Due to overcrowding, A&M Consolidated Independent School District was eventually moved off campus in 1939 (where College View and the Barbara Bush Parent Center are located). In 2020, AMCHS will host several events to commemorate our centennial celebration.
During the Signing Day ceremony, I reflected back when these seniors began AMCHS and I am overjoyed. They have been such exceptional leaders who embody the qualities of AMCHS student, and I am so excited to see what their future entails.
As you prepare for Student Appreciation Week, be sure to go out of your way to show our students how much we appreciate them. Often, we are a beacon of light in many of our students’ lives. Be encouraged and let your light shine--we have been given another opportunity to make a difference.
Feel free to share with me what you are doing this week to show our students they matter!
