Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences are coming up on March 2 and 3rd. Please use the link below to sign up for a conference or call Mrs. Zoerner in the office at 526-4500. I also opened up a few times on Tuesday, March 1 to give people more choices.

Book Fair

Between the Covers will be hosting our book fair during parent teacher conferences. There is a note in the Friday folder and a preorder form. You can access their digital catalogue using the link below. Pre-order forms are due Thursday, Feb. 25.

The book fair will be held in the Shay multi-purpose room. Part of the proceeds from the fair will go toward 4th grade spring field trips. We thank you for your continued support.

Language Arts

  • Reading: We read a historical fiction story about a young girl who was a stagecoach driver in the late 1800s. We focused on compare and contrasting the characters in the story and we reviewed character traits.
  • Writing: We wrapped up our persuasive essays and focused on revising and editing.
  • Grammar: We reviewed adjectives and identified the nouns the adjectives are describing in a sentence.

This week students learned about “Divisibility Rules”. These rules can be used as shortcuts in long division and will become very important when we begin working with fractions. Students also started working on a practice test in class to help prepare for our math test scheduled for next Thursday. Students have a review to complete for homework that will help them prepare for the test as well.

Science and Social Studies

Science: Students used their knowledge of simple circuits to design a lunchbox alarm. They had to figure out how to alert someone that their lunchbox was open. I was so impressed with how they used what they've learned and their creativity.

Social Studies: We worked on commercials, posters and business cards for Mini-Society. Reminder that the Mini-Society date was moved to Tuesday, March 15 from 1:30-2:30.
