Our Weekend in Pictures

It's A Great Day To Be A Viking

Once again, our community brought me to tears with its generosity, compassion, and selflessness. After learning that our building had flooded on Saturday night through word of mouth, over 100 volunteers descended on the elementary school Sunday afternoon and did WHATEVER was asked of them to help make sure that the school was ready for our students on Monday.

Our Week In Pictures

Washing hands and Germ lesson in Pre-K with Nurse Coco. She gave the kids "germ" lotion and used a black light to see the "germs". We experimented to see what was the best way to clean our hands- hand sanitizer, baby wipes, or soap and water. Soap and water worked the best!

Spirit Week, 9/12-9/16

Dress up each day to show our spirit for homecoming week!

Monday - Neon Day
Tuesday - Hat Day
Wednesday - Hawaiian Day
Thursday - Team Day (Wear your favorite team jersey or team hat)
Friday - Blue Out ( Wear Viking colors)

Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning is a new specials class that has been added this year. It is taught by Mrs. O'Brien and students rotate through it along with PE, Art, and Performing Arts. Mrs. O'Brien teaches the following big ideas: responsible decision making, relationship skills with peers, self-management, and social awareness. Each class will meet with Mrs. O'Brien once a week. Classes focus on age appropriate lessons like what does it mean to be a good friend, conflict resolution, and nurturing a culture of kindness at school.

If your student is not going to be present, please email Christine Harris at charris@lagovistaisd.net and cc the nurse (cfoster@lagovistaisd.net) and teacher and be sure to include the reason for missing. Please note, whether or not you have notified us ahead of time, your student will still be counted absent at attendance time. You have 3 days to submit a note to the attendance clerk. As time permits, the notes will be uploaded into your student's file and the absence will be updated. If it's excusable, you will see an A in your Parent Portal. Please check your Parent Portal under attendance to see if it was updated before reaching out.

Drop off items!

Please be sure to have all items labeled with your student's first and last name on it. You may drop off items at the table located in the foyer. We ask that you please drop off items before 10am. If you are dropping off medicine for the nurse, please wait for assistance.

Safety Information

Your child's safety is, and always has been, our number one priority. Here are a few of the things we are doing to ensure your child's continued safety:

1. Exterior doors will remain locked at all times. Checks of exterior doors will be conducted to ensure they are locked and closed securely.

2. Interior doors will remain locked at all times.

3. No adult will be admitted to the building without being screened through our Raptor system which checks for criminal history violations.

4. All visitors will be issued a visitor's badge with a photo ID printed on it. Badges will be collected upon exiting the building. Visitors will be required to enter through the newly constructed vestibule at the front entrance.

5. A variety of safety drills will be conducted routinely in order to ensure students and staff know protocols for various emergency situations.

LVES Yearbook

We have an amazing parent volunteer who gathers pictures all year long and creates an awesome yearbook for us each year. She is always looking for more pictures! You can contribute pictures of your child and their times here at school by joining the Facebook page LVES Yearbook. Let's add some of those cute first day pics!

From the Nurse

Dear Parents,

With a new year back in gear, we wanted to update everyone on this year's Covid Protocol. Instead of students staying home for any single Covid symptom, we have differentiated the symptoms into milder and more serious ones. Please see the different symptom lists here. The number of restricted days has also changed from 10 days to 5 days of isolation.

We hope this helps clarify the process for everyone.
Please don't hesitate to call Nurse Foster if you have questions.
