Coyle's Rowlett Chamber of Commerce Teacher/Staff Member of the Month

Congratulations to Ms. Katie McMillin - 7th Grade Science Teacher

Big picture
Ms. McMillin is in her 3rd year as a science teacher at Coyle. She serves on multiple leadership committees including Team Lead for 7th Grade Science. Ms. McMillin is always one of the first staff members to step up when a need arises on our campus. She loves our students and the Coyle community! She is a product of Garland ISD schools, a graduate of Baylor University, and currently pursuing options to attain a master's degree in Educational Leadership! We are thankful to have a leader like her serving our school community! She is truly what we call a "runner" and exemplifies our standard of "giving to the Team what the Team needs!" Congratulations on this honor and recognition by your peers and the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce! #CougarPRIDE #destinationA #bethelight

Cadets in the Leadership Cadet Corp and JROTC has received their PT Gear this week! Check out shots of the 3rd Platoon in their new uniforms!

Starting, Tuesday 18 October 22nd, LCC / JROTC Cadets will be seen in the US Army Physical Fitness (PT) Uniform only on “B” days as “B” days are their PT days. Students wearing the PT Uniform MUST wear it IAW AR 670-1 Wear and Appearance of the Uniform. Items from the uniform are NOT allowed to be mixed with civilian attire and therefor will be dress-coded if they do. Cadets may wear the t-shirt and shorts with or without the jacket but will not wear the pants without the jacket. The jacket is nice but will NOT be worn on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays with their civilian attire.

Our Campus Goal is 96.5% or higher each week!

#DestinationA - The staff at Coyle truly believes in our students and their ability to reach an A-rating this school year! We tag all of our social media posts with #DestinationA as an encouragement and motivation for all of us….admin, teachers, staff, students, and families! Yes, families, too! Your partnership and positive engagement is just as important to the success of our school community as our admin, teachers, staff, and students.

Attendance Averages for 10/3-10/7:

  • Coyle MS (Grades 7-8) - 94.78%
  • Coyle Tech (6th Grade) - 93.82%

Ensure your student is present at school everyday! Our campus attendance goal is 96% or higher each week. During the first grading cycle, we average 94.1%. Not only did we lose valuable state funding for those students who were not in attendance, but we are below our minimum required to reach the top 25% of our campus comparison group. If we fail to reach the top 25%, we lose points towards getting our desired A-Rating.

Students who do not meet the compulsory attendance requirements will be subjected to a home visit by campus admin or district personnel, or withdrawal from school. You may view the Compulsory Attendance Requirements.

Ensure that your student is following all district and campus expectations (student code of conduct, dress code, technology policy, positive behavior expectations). When students cooperate with district and campus expectations, admin, teachers, and staff have more time to focus on providing students with an exceptional education instead of spending valuable time correcting misbehaviors. Every minute students spend in their academic environment increases their opportunities for success! You can review campus and district expectations by clicking the links below:

Cougar Spirit Gear

This campaign will function as a fundraiser from October 17th – November 1st. For every item sold Boys athletics will receive a percentage of the sale. You get to support your Cougar sports teams with spirit wear and help bolster our athletics fund. We will use these funds to purchase equipment and apparel. In addition, students are eligible to earn a free incentive based on the total number of items sold. There will be a section that asks who is selling the item once customers checkout. We look forward to your support and seeing you in Cougar gear.

Please make sure that our students understand the importance of wearing an identification badge, please emphasize the importance of wearing their ID badge, and model GISD requirements as well using the Student PAW card presentation.

We are still working on a plan to get school IDs to new students and those who were not here on picture day. We will send out that information as soon as possible.

Courageous Conversations About Coyle’s Data

Principal Barnett and our campus leadership team is in the beginning stages of preparing a new Parent Family Engagement series of discussions titled “Courageous Conversations About Coyle’s Data”. During these interactive discussion sessions, we will examine problems of practice with respect to our diverse student group’s academic, social, and behavioral data in order to address the relationship between race and achievement. Principal Barnett is acutely aware of the statistical gaps in achievement in our diverse student population, and realizes that eliminating this disparity is critical to developing cultural proficiency and students success for ALL of Coyle students! Courageous conversations about data helps our campus leaders and families understand why performance inequity persists and how to develop action plans that guide policy analysis and instructional reform that promotes true academic parity to “eliminate our achievement gaps!” More Information to Come!!
