The Fairview Connection
NOVEMBER 18, 2022
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
As we head into this upcoming Thanksgiving week, I want to share with you how thankful I am to be working in such a warm, supportive and engaged community. As I think back to this week alone, I see how fortunate we are to have strong partnerships with parents and guardians after engaging in conferences. We feel the appreciation of our community as we enjoyed a meal together as a staff on Tuesday evening courtesy of our PTO. Then on Wednesday, we were able to watch our students enjoy an entertaining and character building assembly as The Pro Kids Show returned to Fairview courtesy of the PTO’s generosity and planning. Thank you for your continued support of Fairview School! I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving week, and I hope you are able to spend time doing whatever it is that you love most this time of year. Please read below for some updates from me and be sure to check out the entire newsletter below for more information. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
Fairview Giving Tree: As shared last week, each year at Fairview, we have a tradition of helping our families who have some financial needs by purchasing gifts for their children to enjoy during the holiday season. I am always so inspired and impressed with how our community comes together to make sure we take care of one another in this way. If you are interested in purchasing a gift for a Fairview family so our students have something to open and enjoy for the holidays, please sign up using this link. We have added several more opportunities for giving since last week, so please click the link if you are interested and had noticed all the gifts were already claimed last week! All wrapped gifts are due back at Fairview no later than Monday, December 19th so we have time to prepare them for pick up. Please put a note on each gift to indicate the family number and gift description to help make sure each gift is delivered to the right family. Thank you for your generosity and support!
PTO Holiday Shoppe: As shared last week, our wonderful Fairview PTO is hosting its second annual Holiday Shoppe on Wednesday, November 30th from 4:30-7:30 pm in the multi-purpose room. This exciting event will give students a chance to purchase some gifts for their loved ones at an affordable cost this holiday season. In order to make this event a success, we need several volunteers. We will need help with set up from 3:00-4:30 pm, cashiers and helpers from 4:30-6:00 pm (shift one) and 6:00-7:30 pm (shift two), and clean up helpers from 7:30-9:00 pm. To sign up for any of these time slots, please click this link. For more general information about the Holiday Shoppe, click here.
PTO Parents Night Out: Are you looking for a chance to connect with other Fairview parents and have a fun night out? All parents and guardians are welcome to join us at Canta Napoli for an ugly sweater and wine tasting gathering on Friday, December 2nd from 8:00-10:00 pm. Click this link to register!

IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM NURSE BRUNNING
In order to prevent the spread of germs, it is important that any student who vomits, has diarrhea, or has a fever be kept home for at least 24 hour after the symptoms end. They must be 24 hours free of these symptoms without the use of medication to relieve the symptom. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact Kelly Brunning, the school nurse, at 847-394-7320. or kbrunning@d57.org.

DRESS FOR OUTDOOR RECESS
As the weather turns cooler, please make sure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature /wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature) the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag in their coat as we already have a lot of lost coats and sweatshirts.
All students will go out with their class unless we have a doctor’s note limiting their participation. If a student has been ill and he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in all the activities of the school day, perhaps another day at home will insure a healthy return to school.
