IMPORTANT CAR RIDER INFORMATION
HPE Parents,
It is always necessary to remain mindful of the importance of safety as our students arrive and dismiss from school. We have recently experienced concerns with arrival, and we ask that you review our arrival procedures to prevent any accidents from occurring. While we understand schedules get busy and it is often inconvenient to wait in car lines to drop off students, we can all agree there is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our children. If your schedule does not allow you time to wait in the car rider line, please consider having your child use the bus transportation that HSE provides. Thank you for making the safety of your child and the children of everyone in our school community the number one priority.
Ā· A staff member will be on duty to receive your child. All car riders should enter at the front of the school.
Ā· Please do NOT use your phone, computer or any electronic device while in the car rider line.
Ā· Please have your child exit from the passenger side of the vehicle. Students should stay in their seatbelts/safety seats until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and your child is ready to get out of the car.
Ā· Students should exit the car in front of the school entrance. Please do NOT release students to walk along the sidewalk next to moving cars as they attempt to reach the school entrance.
Ā· Do NOT drop off or pick up your child from a car parked in the parking lot. Not only does this create an unsafe situation for your child, but it also causes challenges for those who are waiting in line as requested.
Ā· Remain in a single line and do NOT pass cars that have stopped to release students. A cone is placed to signal the traffic flow. Please do NOT create a safety situation by attempting to drive around the cone or by exiting your car to move the cone.
Ā· Please use extreme caution in our parking lot in the morning and afternoon as both are high-traffic times.
Thank you,
Andrea Burke

Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the Safe Visitor App (IPhone) or have your badge ready and available to be scanned when you come into the school office. The app is in Google Play for other types of phones. To find the Safe Visitor app, search for āSafeVisitorā (there is no space in between the words).
Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in. Upon leaving, please let the office staff know so they can sign you out.
If you have questions/concerns or need to have your badge re-emailed to you, please contact -Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Volunteering and the Background Check Process
Parents/visitors to HPE must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey) in order to volunteer in the school or to have lunch with a student. The link for the background check information can be found on link below at https://www.hseschools.org/services/other/school-safety/visiting-and-volunteering
The background checks are conducted by a 3rd party company, and there is a $13.00 fee for processing (payable online at the time of the application). Once completed, approved background checks are valid for a period of 3 years. Applicants will be notified via email when their background check has been completed and they will also notify people 30 days before their background check expires.

Note from Nurse Gray
As most of you are aware our Spring pollen and mold counts are very high this time of year.
Here is some information on allergies and what you can do to help your student both at home and while at school.
Symptoms of Spring allergies include:
ļ· Sneezing
ļ· Stuffy and/ or runny nose
ļ· Scratchy and/ or sore throat
ļ· Dry cough
ļ· Itchy and watery eyes, gritty feeling in eyes or feelings of sand in eyes, redness, puffy eyelids, and dark circles under eyes
ļ· Itchy, bumpy skin, redness, and hives
What you can do about seasonal allergies:
When we are outside, pollen circulates through the air and lands on our bodies. It can be in our hair, skin, eyes, mouth and nose.
Have your child wash their hands and face or shower and change clothes after being outside.
Treatment for Itchy, Watery, Red and Burning Eyes:
Splash eyes with water and apply wet cloths to their eyes.
Check with your childās doctor regarding appropriate oral allergy medications and allergy eye drops for these symptoms.
Treatment for Itchy Skin:
The skin can respond to pollen with symptoms of small, fine bumps, itching, redness, and hives.
Check with your childās doctor regarding appropriate oral and topical allergy medications for these symptoms.
Asthma and Seasonal Allergies Symptoms
Check with your childās doctor regarding treatment.
HPE is not allowed to supply Benedryl or medicated eye drops to students. If your student is in need of eye drops, please send some into the clinic.
If you have any questions about Spring allergies, please donāt hesitate to contact me.
