Public Health Warning: Stop using vaping products
PORTLAND, Ore.—The Oregon Health Authority is issuing a public health warning urging people to immediately stop using all vaping products.
Public health officials have now linked a second Oregon death to the use of vaping products. The Oregon Health Authority urges Oregonians to stop using all vaping products until federal and state officials have determined the cause of serious lung injuries and deaths linked to the use of both cannabis and nicotine vaping products. No vaping products should be considered safe. Until health experts can identify why people who have used these products have become seriously ill, and in some cases died, no vaping product should be used. State health officials will continue to work closely with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration to determine the cause of deaths and illnesses in Oregon and across the nation.

October is Farm to School Month!
October is National Farm to School Month and celebrates food education, school gardens and lunch trays filled with healthy, local ingredients.
In the Beaverton School District, we are proud to serve Oregon grown products in our cafeterias.
Nutrition Services is committed to purchasing local food items from Oregon and Washington in an effort to ensure better overall food quality with increased nutritional benefits. Last school year, we spent $1,096,335.00 on local purchases.
We believe that our local purchases have helped to stimulate the local and regional economies, and have improved our student's health and nutrition by increasing the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables purchased from area farmers. The quality has been superb!
On October 3, Bonny Slope Elementary School students celebrated Farm to School month with the “Big Apple Crunch”. At 2:00 p.m. every student and staff member took a big bite of a fresh Hood River Organic apple!
After-School Activities
Did you know the Communications & Community Involvement Department provides links to many flyers for after-school activities as a service to parents, students, and community members of the Beaverton School District during the school year. Most schools also have information on Community tables as well.
The word flyer includes but is not limited to: poster, pamphlet, brochure or catalog. We review materials requests from community-based, nonprofit and for-profit organizations on a monthly basis. Flyers for September are available now. New flyers will be posted each month. In October, links to new flyers will be posted after Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

City of Beaverton Draft Climate Action Plan & Survey - Public Input Welcome
This Fall, the City of Beaverton will be proposing a Beaverton Climate Action Plan (BCAP) to be adopted by the City Council. The goal of the plan is in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, which aims to limit global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees Celsius; this will mean zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To achieve this goal, the plan includes 80 action items in five categories: Consumer Choice and Waste, Community Wellbeing, Buildings, Energy and Urban Form, Natural Systems and Transportation. The plan prioritizes the inclusion and needs of marginalized communities that have historically been underrepresented and are most affected by a changing climate.
This city is currently seeking public input on the draft plan and climate action in general. To review the draft plan and take the public survey, please visit: www.BeavertonOregon.gov/Sustainability.
