The Fairview Connection

Message from Principal Ophus
Dear Fairview Families,
First trimester report cards are coming home in student backpacks today. Please take a moment to look this over along with any other documents that may be coming home from other teachers who support your children here at school. The purpose for report cards is to give parents an update regarding how their child is performing academically. Report cards serve as a good springboard for discussion with the teacher about student progress to celebrate the successes of our students and develop plans to help them moving forward. This coming Tuesday, November 19th, and Wednesday, November 20th, Fairview will be holding Parent-Teacher Conferences. We look forward to meeting with parents to discuss the progress of our students and appreciate the strong partnership that exists between teachers and parents to help children reach their fullest potential. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions about the upcoming conferences, and thank you to those parents who already attended their conference last evening.
When you come for your conference, you will notice that Fairview’s Giving Tree will be on display in the front foyer area. Consider taking a moment to sign up to purchase a gift for a Fairview family in need this holiday season. Ornaments with a description of an item to purchase will be available for you to take. Please sign the sheet provided if you take an ornament and return the gift to Fairview by Monday, December 16th at the latest. Thank you for your generosity! In addition, be sure to stop by the LRC during conferences to check out the variety of books and resources available at the Book Fair.
As we look forward to the week after we return from our Thanksgiving Break, we are eager to host our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade winter concerts and 3rd-5th grade chorus concerts. On Wednesday, December 4th, our 2nd grade concert begins at 6:00 p.m. After an intermission, our 3rd grade concert, which includes the 3rd grade chorus concert, will begin at 7:15 p.m. On Thursday, December 5th, our 4th grade concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. After a brief intermission, our 4th and 5th grade chorus concert will begin at 7:15 p.m. We hope you are able to make it!
With the measurable snow that has already fallen twice this fall, and a couple of instances where busses have been late over the past week, now is a good time for a reminder about Bus Bulletin. If you haven’t done so already, parents of students who ride the bus should take some time to sign up for Bus Bulletin, a free service offered by our bus company, First Student, that emails, calls, and/or sends text messages to parents if a bus is going to be delayed by ten minutes or more. To sign up, follow the directions posted at http://www.BusBulletin.com/parents. You will need your child’s route information, which can be found on their bus pass. If you need assistance registering, call First Student at 847-635-9877.
As we approach Thanksgiving just less than two weeks from today, I want you to know that I am so thankful for the ways you show love and support for your children and our school. I truly appreciate the opportunity I have to work in a community where parents desire to be involved in the education of their children. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
FAIRVIEW'S GIVING TREE
The Fairview staff and community will be helping District 57 families this holiday season. The Peer Mediators set up and decorated Fairview’s Giving Tree in our front foyer this week. Holiday “tags” will be hung on the glass behind the tree for staff and families to purchase a gift for a child in need. Any staff or Fairview family interested in participating are encouraged to take a tag. After taking a tag, please write your name on the gift checklist located on a stand near the tree. All wrapped presents should be delivered to Fairview school by Monday, December 16th with the tag attached to the gift.
Please contact Fairview’s social worker, Katherine Ciruelas with any questions (kciruelas@d57.org).
Thank you!
