Baptism OPENS THE DOOR to the rest of the Sacraments!
Are you wishing to Baptize your school-age child?
Does your child want to receive First Communion with their classmates?
It is never too late!
For the Baptism of infants or very young children, parents make the Baptismal promises on their behalf. OLPH offers our monthly Baptism Preparation Class, required for all parents (and recommended for prospective Godparents also.) For a child age 7 (considered the age of reason) or older, catechesis and preparation of their own is necessary before receiving any of the sacraments, including Baptism.
We are offering a special Baptism Preparation Class for children Age 7-10, so they can be welcomed in Baptism, then join the class to celebrate First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the new year 2022 with their peers.
Sunday November 14
9:15 am—11:30 am
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish
Sherwood Park
Parents, please email sacraments@olph.ca to register by Friday, November 5. (No cost to register.)
Loose Parts Play
Madonna Catholic is partnering with Ever Active Schools to introduce loose parts play to our school!
Play is hugely important in almost every area of children’s lives. It improves social skills and creativity while supporting emotional resilience, physical development, confidence and learning. Loose parts play is a type of play that supports invention, divergent thinking, problem solving and offers a sense of wonder to children. Loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways.
When children play this way, they…
Figure out things for themselves.
Learn how to take healthy risks.
Find innovative ways to think about the world and how it works, based on their own self-led, intrinsically motivated interests.
Practice necessary skills such as overcoming obstacles, creative problem solving (on their own or with other children), communicating their feelings effectively with others, and working with those who may have different points of view.
Experience the joy of self-discovery, the thrill of being able to pursue their own creative ideas without the fear of failure that usually arises when there is one, predetermined way to be “right” or to “win”.
As our children begin their journey into Loose Parts Play, we are looking to gather as many ‘parts’ as possible. If you have loose parts that you would like to contribute, we would be more than happy to repurpose them through play - please contact our loose parts leads! See the examples in the list attached for more ideas. Our loose parts launch will occur Nov. 29, so we would like to have a variety of parts by then!
Thanks!
