Hello from the principal's desk!
Volume 12, Issue 11
Hello and happy Wednesday!
I hope January has been treating you and your family well. The rain has finally stopped, and the kids are loving being back outside... as are the teachers! There is so much going on over here, I really appreciate you all taking time to read through my bi-weekly newsletter, check out some pictures, find some events to attend, etc. I know you are all soooo busy!
First off, we are in the middle of visits by our prospective TK and Kindergarten families for the 2019-2020 school year. If you are reading this, then welcome to you all! Mr. Lundholm, Mrs. Machrus, our entire Kinder team and I all stayed late for the Kinder info night two weeks ago. We had an incredible turnout, thanks to everyone who showed up! Our Student Council students are leading families on tours through the best parts of our school - from our Music/PE/Media Center rooms to recess and the peace path to the Wellness Center/STAR Lab/STEAM Studio and finally to our amazing Kinder rooms and yard. The families without fail say that their favorite parts of the tour are the kids leading them, they are left with such a valuable impression of our school. Our school is composed of a diverse group of fascinating young people. I have to admit it is pretty fun to show it all off, and see it through the eyes of these 9, 10 and 11 year olds.
We went in front of the AUSD Board of Education last night for our annual highlight presentation. We talked about our Wellness Center, led by the intrepid Audrey Hyman, had student council students lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, thanks to Kristin Furuichi-Fong's leadership, and had gifts made by our STEAM teacher Mandie Cline. We also honored two employees, Glenda Machrus, our Office Manager and Zaby Bongiovanni, our Speech and Language Pathologist, for our Employee Spotlights. Thanks again to these two employees, who put students and families at the forefront of their lives. Many families and staff were in attendance, thanks to everyone for showing your support for our incredible school!!!
Tomorrow we kick off our School Smarts parent academy. School Smarts is a seven-week series of classes, one night a week. At Ruby, we are doing them on Thursday nights, from 6-8pm. See below for the flyer and more information. Our first class is tomorrow night! We may still have a slot or two available. Sign up by going to http://bit.ly/Register4SchoolSmarts, we offer classes in Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Spanish and English. Free dinner and childcare available!
