Exciting News!
I am very excited to share with you that our school has been given the green light to be visited by the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE), for STEM certification. This process began in 2012 when staff, parents, and students longed for more STEM like activities to be included in our school culture. With those requests, coupled with the drive for project-based learning activities in the district, we have naturally moved toward obtaining our STEM certification as well.
For the last two weeks, we have been preparing for our visit. On October 11th, we had a cluster principal, area superintendent, and district leader visit our school and classrooms to offer feedback on our official visit this Wednesday. On both occasions, Pre-K-5th grade students were asked STEM like questions that tested their knowledge of the AKS and process of STEM. Our amazing students did exceptionally well and were able to advocate for their work and communicate their knowledge to our guests wonderfully.
As we forge ahead toward the spring visits from the state department, we will continue to work organically to implement STEM projects in all classrooms. We always welcome your support and expertise. If you are able to come to our school to support any of our science, technology, engineering and math projects, please let us know.
Thank you for joining us on this journey toward STEM certification. If awarded, we will be one of the first Title I schools to be offered this designation in the district and state. I am so excited to watch this unfold!
