News From Mrs. Bethune:
Hello all,
I hope you received the information about the new upcoming principal here at St. Patrick’s. Mrs. Placek and I taught together when we were at Cathedral together and I have known her for a long time. She will be a great fit with our school. I am so excited for her and for the continued success of the school. This school is my passion and I am blessed to get to pass it on to someone who has the same passion.
On Monday, March 19th, Bishop Conley will be at St. Patrick’s to say the morning Mass. We will have donuts after Mass to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as well as Bishop Conley’s birthday. This is will be schools day to celebrate our feast day! We will have our annual St. Patrick’s Day Olympics in the afternoon. We invite all family and friends to the Mass in the morning as well as the donut reception after. We always enjoy having everyone join us for celebrations.
Just a reminder testing week starts next week. Please make sure your students have a good night’s sleep and get a good breakfast. It is very important to their success. Please see the note listed in the newsletter more about this testing week.
Have a great week,
Mrs. Bethune

St. Patrick Carnival Punch Cards
Carnival punch cards will be on sale the week of March 5-9 in the school office. The 20 count punch cards are $5 each if bought at school.

Carnival Set Up Help
If anyone is available on Friday, March 16th to help set up the carnival games, we would really appreciate the help. Younger kids are welcome to help with a parent and junior high kids could be dropped off to help so long as they behave and actually help. No time for shenanigans this day. 😊 The more people we have, the less time it takes. We will start around 9am. Please help if you can! Thanks!

LB295
We are at a critical and urgent moment on LB295, a legislative effort that would provide more education scholarship opportunities to low-income and working-class families. It is expected to be debated by the state legislature next week, the week of March 5th. As anticipated, the Nebraska State Education Association (i.e., the public teachers union) and others have been on a “campaign of misinformation” about LB295 and its impact on public schools and the state (see, for example, their www.notinnebraska.com website).
It is imperative that we get a message out to all of our schools. We want to urge a couple particular action items.
First, we urge all school administrators and teachers to get engaged on this issue by either e-mailing or calling their state senator. Our state senators want and need to hear from their constituents. They can e-mail their senator by clicking here. They can find out who their state senator is by clicking here. They can learn more about LB295 by visiting our website.
I hope our educators can step up and advocate on behalf of those impoverished families that do not have a voice. If our voice is not heard, state senators will not recognize the need or desire among their constituency for LB295.
Second, we urge all our school administrators to push advocacy information to their parents. In particular, we ask them to provide the LB295 advocacy piece (attached) to the parents. This one-pager encapsulates the necessary information anybody would need to contact their state senator.
We have provided a few other one-page materials (attached).
One last thing, while we want educators and parents across the state voicing their support, we will also be contacting specific schools based on their legislative district and whether or not their senator is a potential swing vote.
Thanks for your attention to this matter!
In Christ,
Tom Venzor
