School Success Group Parent Update
"7 Habits of Happy and Effective Kids"
What have we been learning in the School Success Group with Mrs. Poovey?
The school success group has worked on ALL six habits of effective people. The last two habits we practiced were:
Habit #5- Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood: Use "Whole Body Listening" to show your teacher, parents, and friends you are using active listening and care about what they are saying.
**Whole Body Listening includes listening with the eyes, ears, mouth, brain, feet, hands, and heart.
Habit #6- Synergize: Use teamwork and listen to others' ideas in order to come up with the best solution when working in a group. Our group created a three story tower with index cards to practice the Synergize habit.
Although our school success group has completed all six habits and is no longer meeting weekly, we will meet for a check-in refresher once we return to school in January.

How can you support our group at home?
- Remind your child of the SIX Habits when they are applicable to a situation: Be Proactive; Begin With the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood; Synergize.
- Positively reinforce your child when they are using one of the highly effective habits.
- Being Proactive with behavior and classwork/homework is the habit that we have spent the MOST time on. Discuss this habit with your child on a weekly basis and link it to getting good grades and fewer tallies/no silent lunch as we near the next report card date.
PLEASE click on the Parent Survey below to give me feedback on how your child is doing at this time. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
