Principal Scott's Weekly Message
April 11, 2021
What an amazing past two weeks we have had! We are officially in hybrid learning - how cool is that? I am so impressed with students' distance learning at home and those that have returned in person. You continue to met our expectations. Kudos to you all!
For in person students - who are walking with a parent to school - please walk up to the East Side of campus (at the end of the Mountain Avenue cul-de-sac). That is the best area for health checks for walkers.

SEL Skill of the Week
This week Playworks is featuring a fun group game that requires students to think quickly, listen carefully to one another, and stay focused so they can repeat back what they hear from their classmates.
Social-Emotional Focus: Social Engagement – Being active and present within a particular community.
# of people to play: Minimum of 4
Best for ages: Grades 2-6
Setup/Teaching Time: 2 minutes
Equipment needed: None
Goal: Stay focused and engaged to repeat back what your classmate says.
How to Play:
- Whole group chants “five things” five times with rhythmic clapping.
- “Five things, five things, five things, five things, five things” (creates a rhythmic beat)
- Facilitator verbally passes to player 1 and assigns them a category (ex. “things you bring to school”)
- “Things you bring to school, Pat!”
- Player 1 says the first five things that come to mind (ex. “Backpack, homework, lunch, books, phone”).
- The whole group counts out loud after each item shared by player 1 (ex. “Backpack, one,” “homework, two.”)
- When player 1 has shared all five things, the whole group repeats the five things chant and Player 1 verbally passes to another classmate and assigns a new category.
- “Snacks, Alyssa”
- The game can continue for as long as the class can think of fun categories!
**Note: this is a fast-paced, improvisational game; it’s perfectly ok for students to give answers that don’t quite fit the category or make sense. The objective is to build comfort sharing out on the spot while accepting and moving past mistakes.
