Tiger Beat
Acton Weekly Update 8/9/19
Things to Know
PTO has not set their field trip support budget yet. It will depend on how well our Team-A-Thon fundraiser goes. Please keep this in mind as you are budgeting and setting your field trips for the year. If PTO is NOT able to support as much this year we may need to either reduce trips or charge more.
Emergency Drills went well. We will be using our phone system for these. I will probably do drills in a different order next time to prevent confusion. When we use the system it is local only. Police are not contacted. Once we've made the announcement we will contact 911 and school police, in a real situation.
Card Readers: When using your card to enter the doors, the card must TOUCH the card reader to work. These are much more secure than our old cards but a little harder to use.
Building Access: You have access in our school from 5:00 AM-10:00 PM. You must be out of the building at 10:01 PM or you will set off the alarm and police will be called.
SOS: I am updating our SOS referral forms this weekend and will get that out to everyone next week.
Coaches Corner
Letter Tracing will start Monday! I'm very excited to get this up and running. The RA teachers will be helping our K friends. Thank you!
For now, you do not need to do the classroom profile as we wait to get trained on the online piece through Scholastic.
I will send out a Friday night note like I did last year (per teachers requests) to update you on any new information I have learned and to send out reminders. The Tiger contains a lot of information and I do not want to overwhelm you.
Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend.
Counselor Corner
I hope you all are enjoying the CD videos! I love learning about the brain states and being conscious of what state they may be in when I'm approaching them.
Just so you all know, I will be teaching the school about the brain states during my second library lesson (November). I wanted to make sure you all knew it won't be your responsibility to teach about the brain states and to just take the time to let it all soak in for now.
This week on the announcements I talked about the 4 activities needed in a brain smart start.
1. Activity to Unite (Monday)
2. Activity to Disengage Stress (Tuesday)
3. Activity to Connect (Wednesday)
4. Activity to Commit Oneself to Learning (Thursday)
I am working on adding to and organizing the CD google folder that Kevin started. I created a Brain Smart Start Folder where I will be putting ideas, videos, visuals, and resources.
If you ever have specific questions or would like any support with all of this please let me know! For the next few weeks, we will continue to model brain smart starts on the news and model elements of CD with you all.

Safe Schools Training
I believe I emailed all of you and update on your Safe Schools progress. Please keep working on these and get them complete so we are at 100% compliance BEFORE the due date.
Please complete all modules you have been assigned by the due date of August 31, 2019. Please note you do not need to print out the certificate at the end of each module as we receive them automatically through the Safe Schools system.
If you do not receive an email from the Safe Schools site by Friday please email Lacey Martin in Human Resources at lacey.martin@ftcsc.org for assistance

FTCSC Hedgehog Focus
The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states, "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." ... Hedgehogs, however, simplify the world and focus on a single, overarching vision, which they then achieve.
