What's the reach out for 7th grade again?
Dear 7th grade parents,
We are excited to be your Out Reach coordinators for 2015-2016! Here is information about our opportunity for this year and a Sign-Up Genius will follow so you can sign up to drive!
Description: Our 7th graders have a wonderful opportunity to directly help those who have fallen on difficult times. Each Monday morning, a group of approximately 4-6 students will assist the Giving Bank at Holy Family Church by helping to distribute food to those in need.
When: Monday mornings from October 5th, 2015 through May 25th, 2016, with pick up outside MJS front office by 8:10 am and return from Giving Bank at 10:15 am.
We need drivers! Click on this to sign up!
Important: Please click on this link for a detailed description of your job as a carpool driver!
***Also, the Giving Bank is in need of empty egg crates and travel-sized shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste and toothbrushes. If you have any extra, bring them to Nicole Sanders room, P-3.
Thank you,
Victoria Eaton and Cristina Perez Gonzalez
What to do when your 7th grader spends all of his or her time watching old re-runs of The Love Boat on the iPad and never gets any work done.....
Joe Dilley to the rescue!
What: Expert, Joe Dilley is coming to MJS to discuss the digital age!
When: Thursday, October 8, 6 p.m., Hayden Performing Arts Center
Child care: Extended programs will supervise and give pizza dinner for $5
Our kids want and need to use technology, but navigating toward safe use can be treacherous. This discussion helps parents re-establish control in the home even as they extend their kids plenty of latitude, so that the three jobs of being a kid: doing school, minding parents, and having fun, can be enjoyed harmoniously.
Joe Dilley is a licensed clinical psychologist and the author of "The Game is Playing Your Kid: How to Unplug & Reconnect in the Digital Age. " His book will be available for $12 on the evening of the event.
When your 7th grader begins that awkward puberty stage that usually coincides with being incredibly embarrassed by your presence in front of his or her friends.....
Nurse Kathy Larson “Family Life Parent Information Night” is this week!
When: Wednesday, September 30, 7 pm, Hayden Performing Arts Center
Childcare: Child care and dessert is available for $5 through Extended Programs
Why: to learn about the Family Life Program that Nurse Larson teaches our students in Grades 4 – 8.
Nurse Larson has taught Family Life at MJS for a number of years, in addition to teaching in over 20 other local independent schools and working at the Huntington Medication Foundation – Pasadena Pediatrics. Family Life instruction will begin for students in October.
The parent education committee is also considering adding a two-part class where Nurse Larsen would share actual content she teaches in 4th-8th grade. If you are interested in this, please contact Dr. Maria Pannell at mpannell@mayfieldjs.org.
