Free colony of Pennsylvania
"William puts the Penn in Pennsylvania."
Come to Pennsylvania
Before traveling to Pennsylvania himself, William sent his cousin, William Markham, to meet the people who already lived there. William Penn founded Pennsylvania in 1681 because he was tired of the Church of England. He wanted a religious free colony that treated everyone of different religions equally. He was tired of being persecuted for his beliefs.
