Juniors: School Day SAT March 4
As a result of House Bill 3, as passed by the 26th Texas Legislature, the state will be providing funding for all juniors to take one college admissions exam. Plano ISD will be using this funding to administer the SAT to 11th grade students on March 4, 2020. Students will take the SAT exam at their home campuses. If you would like additional information about SAT School Day, please visit the College Board’s website at https://pages.collegeboard.org/sat/school-day/parents?excmpid=mtg450-pa-1-fl.
Additionally, you may access free SAT prep materials on the College Board website at this link: https://www.khanacademy.org/sat?utm_source=cbcta-hpl-sy-2019-20&utm_medium=cb418-xt&utm_campaign=practice
There are no registration requirements for students or parents—this will be done automatically by your school. If you have already scheduled your student’s SAT, you may choose to either keep that date as a second testing opportunity, or you may move that registration to another national testing date.
More detailed information will be coming from your school counseling team as details and plans unfold.
Collin College Dual Enrollment Forms (Juniors & Seniors)
If you are participating in the dual enrollment courses with Collin College, please complete and return the permission form soon.
Your counselor needs to sign the permission form and then that form should be returned to Ms. Lewis on a Monday or Wednesday when she is on campus.
If you do not have the appropriate forms, you can pick them up in the counseling office.
If you have any questions, you may contact Timberly Lewis at timberlylewis@collin.edu
STAY INFORMED!
The Counseling office is using Remind 101 to keep learners and parents up-to-date on information

4th Years
This week marks the end of project Start Your Impossible. As the project wraps up, final touches and practice presentations will be made this week. The 4th Years are excited to present their solutions to their Toyota mentors on the 15th. Learners will continue to work on their Capstone projects after the project ends.
2nd Years
The end of Beneath the Surface is upon us! However, we have one more big week before we can put a pin in things. Big things are happening this week as we will have our submersible competition at William’s Natatorium on Wednesday, and then our second General Assembly on Friday. These events will mark the end of Beneath the Surface, as the learners recover the satellite in hopes of learning more about its bizarre origins. Learners began channeling their understanding of Orwellian concepts by beginning to create and design propaganda videos. Second Years will draft, script, storyboard, film, and edit their short videos this week, and the videos will debut on Friday morning, prior to our Second General Assembly.
As Beneath the Surface wraps up, Change the Game is on deck. The Second Year team is looking forward to what the learners will do with a challenge and opportunity to create a video or board game
1st Years
First-year learners have been busy getting started on our new project League of Our Own. We are exploring reaching our highest potential - through building a launching apparatus and investigate our personal potential for success! To support this project Learners are exploring the following:
World Geography is researching world regions in preparation for World Conference in January
This week, Math of Engineering began thinking about and applying past knowledge of quadratics. Algebra 1 discussed correlation and causation between variables and linear regressions with graphs.
In English, we are building context towards Ancient Greece as we will start reading The Odyssey next week. Learners will be working through the novel and developing their critical reading skills with a complex text.
Art compared 1,2- pt perspective drawing to isometric projection. Last sketch in series due Friday--ask your learner to show you their 3 sketch series.
Physics learners solved a mystery last week involving forces and how that applies that to real-world situations like solving a crime.
In engineering, we are getting ready for our first big build for the first year learners. We started with engineering design notebooks and orthographic and isometric sketching in preparation for our projectile launcher designs. In technology, we are examining what data is collected when we go online and how it is used.
Class of 2020!
Attention Parents!
Are you a parent of a graduating senior? A surprise recognition ad will make your graduate’s last high school yearbook extra special for them. The process is quite simple. All you need are a few digital photos and a short, personal message. You can build your own ad or an Academy Yearbook sponsor can assist. To reserve space in the book, you’ll need to place the order and create your ad by January 31. Recognition ads are in addition to the purchase of a yearbook.
Direct all questions to me, Linda Aponte, Academy Yearbook Sponsor at linda.aponte@pisd.edu. Or you can order online by visiting the following Jostens link and clicking on recognition ads. tinyurl.com/2019AcademyYearbook
