Library of Congress Internship Opportunity: Young Readers Center Teaching With Primary Sources Internship
The Library of Congress Young Readers Center introduced a new Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) internship last year; applications for this year’s fall session are now open, and the deadline to apply is Monday, May 20.
The selected intern will receive a stipend that covers transportation to and from Washington, D.C., and offsets the cost of lodging, food, and incidentals.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an undergrad or grad student (or someone who received their degree within the last six months) to get substantive experience connecting the young visitors and their families with the Library’s resources, services, and expertise. The experiences of the two previous TPS Young Readers Center interns demonstrate how valuable these internships are in obtaining employment and admittance into prestigious academic programs.
Follow the link below to find out more about the qualifications, application process, and the intern’s possible experiences. Please share this opportunity with students and colleagues who work with students: https://www.loc.gov/item/internships/young-readers-center-volunteer-internship-program/
For information about other internship and volunteer experiences available all year around, visit the Young Readers Center Internship and Volunteer Program page.

Elementary Librarian Round Table - May 22nd
Susan Kirby-LeMon (Skano Elementary School, Shenendehowa) and Heidi Brower (Stevens Elementary School, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) are hosting a round table for elementary librarians! All are welcome.

Our first meeting is Wednesday, May 22nd from 4-6 PM at Stevens Elementary School in Ballston Lake. There will be refreshments!
The tentative agenda is as follows:
- Introductions
- Sailing into Summer: Sharing tips and suggestions to make our end of year responsibilities easier
- Pitch Party: Do you have a problem or issue you'd like the collective brain to help you solve? Examples include lesson planning, technology how-to, classroom management, etc. No topic is off limits!
Each date counts as 2 hours of professional development. Please feel free to send any potential agenda topics our way.

The revised ESIFC addresses priority information-skill areas that have emerged in the last ten years--and aligns with AASL, ISTE, ELA, Social Studies, and NextGen Science Standards.

In partnership with the School Library Systems Association (SLSA), the 2019 Leadership Institute led by Dr. Barbara Stripling will offer participants the valuable opportunity to explore the new ESIFC and collaborate with colleagues to develop personalized approaches, lessons, formative assessments, and strategies to transform teaching and learning in their schools and/or districts.
Come make the ESIFC your own, build lasting relationships with your colleagues from across the state, and step up to leadership in empowering all New York students to learn and thrive in school and beyond!
